1. IF Clause/ Conditional Sentence
Type of IF Clause

 IF Clause Type 0
 IF Clause Type 1
 IF Clause Type 2
 IF Clause type 3

a. IF Clause Type 0
Conditional sentences tipe 0 atau zero conditional adalah bentuk awal dari kalimat
pengandaian. Kalimat ini bisa juga dikenal dengan “real” conditional karena mengacu
pada fakta yang terjadi. Fungsi zero conditional adalah untuk menjelaskan akibat dari
suatu hal.
Rumus :

Contoh :
 If you drink too much ice, you get stomachache. (jika kamu minum es terlalu
banyak, kamu sakit perut).
 Your teeth are clean if you brush them. (Gigimu bersih jika kamu
membersihkannya)
 If you heat ice, it melts
 If you drop and apple, it falls.
 If you put a rock in water, it sinks.
 Oil floats if you pour it onto water
b. IF Clause Type 1
Conditional sentences tipe 1 juga bisa disebut dengan “future real” conditional.
Conditional sentences tipe 1 berfungsi untuk menjelaskan sebuah peristiwa realistis
yang kemungkinan bisa terjadi di masa depan.

akan beli mobil baru)

 If I get the job, I will buy a new suit.

c. IF Clause Type 2
Conditional sentences tipe 2 juga disebut dengan “unreal” conditional. Kalimat
pengandaian tipe ini menggunakan “if” untuk beranda-andai tentang hal yang akan
dilakukan jika kita berada pada kondisi tertentu. Namun, fakta yang ada adalah
kebalikan dari pengandaian yang dimaksud. Kita menggunakan conditional sentences
tipe 2 ini untuk hal-hal yang kemungkinan terjadinya sangat kecil.

 If I had a billion dollars, I would like travel to Mars
 If I were you, I would buy land for investment.
 If he wasn’t so busy, he’d take a break.
 If I moved to Scotland, I’d live in a cottage.
 I would call her if I knew her number.
 If I saw a ghost, I would be terrified.
 If I had more time, I could take up karate.
 If I learned English, I could visit London.
d. IF Clause Type 3
Conditional sentences tipe ketiga juga biasa disebut dengan “past unreal” conditional.
Kalimat pengandaian tipe ketiga ini digunakan untuk menjelaskan tentang
pengandaian di situasi tidak realistis di masa lalu. Kalimat pengandaian tipe ketiga juga
bisa digunakan untuk mengungkapkan penyesalan tentang kejadian di masa lalu yang
tidak mungkin bisa diubah lagi saat ini.

 If I had woken up on time, I would have done my hair.
 If I had studied harder, I could have passed the exam.
 If you had been wearing a coat, you might have stayed warm.
 If I had known it was your birthday, I would have bought you a present.

a. If Clause + Reminder
Rumus :
If + Simple Present, (Simple Present ) Subject + Must/ Have to/ Has to

(Simple Present ) Subject + Must/ Have to/ Has to If + Simple Present
Contoh :
 If you want to pass the exam, you must study hard. (Jika kamu ingin lulus ujian,
kamu harus belajar rajin)
 You have to be diligent if you want to be a successful entrepreneur. (Kamu
harus rajin jika kamu ingin menjadi pengusaha sukses)

b. If Clause + Suggestion
Rumus :
If + Simple Present, (Simple Present) Subject + Should/ had better/ ought to
Atau
(Simple Present) Subject + Should/ had better/ ought to If + Simple Present
Contoh :
 If you don’t get sick, you should take a rest. (Jika kamu tidak ingin sakit, kamu
seharusnya istirahat)
 You had better do your homework if you want to get A score. (Kamu sebaiknya
mengerjakan PR-mu jika kamu ingin mendapat nilai A)

c. If Clause + Imperative
Rumus :
If + Simple Present, V1 + Object
Atau
V1 + Object If + Simple Present

Contoh :
 If you don’t get sick, take a rest. (Jika kamu tidak ingin sakit, istirahatlah!)
 Do your homework if you want to get A score. (Kerjakan PR-mu jika kamu ingin
mendapat nilai A)

d. If Clause + General Truth


Rumus :
If + Simple Present, Simple Present/ Simple Future
Atau
Simple Present/ Simple Future If + Simple Present

Contoh :
If there is no oxygen, there is no life for the human being. (Jika tidak ada oksigen, tidak
ada kehidupan untuk mahluk hidup)

e. If Clause + Dream
Rumus :
If + Simple Present, Simple Future
Atau
Simple Future If + Simple Present

Contoh :
 If I am a rich man, I will buy many cars. (Jika saya seorang yang kaya, saya akan
membeli banyak mobil)
 If I can drive a car, I will go to Jogja beaches. (Jika saya bisa mengemudikan
mobil, saya akan pergi ke pantai-pantai jogja)
