ACTIVITY 6

The artist uses several techniques to create a dramatic feeling of depth and

distance in "The Parisian Life," which is generally credited to Juan Luna. Luna suggests

depth by having parallel lines converge at a distant point on the horizon using linear

perspective. He also employs atmospheric perspective, using color and value to

replicate the atmospheric impacts on things at varying distances, with items in the front

displaying stronger, warmer colors and those in the distant exhibiting hazier and colder,

muted tones. Luna's deft positioning of objects and individuals, as well as their different

sizes, add to the sensation of depth. This arrangement and attention to detail, as well as

his apparent authorship of the painting, demonstrate his creative ability to portray a

fascinating feeling of depth and distance inside the artwork.
