IV. Assignment
1. Write an essay about the following. 20 points
A. Your personal experience regarding scarcity. What caused this problem and how
did you address it?
When my parents' overseas employer unexpectedly left them stranded, and my
mother's illness demanded urgent attention, we faced a tough financial situation. The
struggle to make ends meet led to a pivotal moment of learning about the value of money
and responsible financial management.
My parents' employer abruptly left, putting us in a tight spot financially. My mom's
health needed immediate care, and with limited resources, I had to drop out of school to
find work and help cover our basic needs.
Thankfully, my aunt stepped in as a lifeline during this tough time. Her support not
only allowed me to continue my education but also helped my parents return to the
Philippines. She provided flight tickets and financial assistance that eased our immediate
struggles.
This challenging period became a wake-up call for me about the real value of money.
The struggle to make ends meet emphasized the importance of every penny earned. It
urged me to rethink my spending and prioritize responsible financial choices. It took two
tough months to recover from the financial setbacks. The journey to stability required
resilience, sacrifices, and a newfound understanding of the fragility of financial security.
The experience left a lasting impact, shaping my mindset and approach to money matters.
The experience highlighted the importance of resilience in tough times and the crucial
support that family provides. It changed my view on possessions, emphasizing the
importance of needs over wants. The lessons from this period continue to guide my
financial decisions, fostering a sense of responsibility and gratitude.
Going through financial hardships taught me invaluable lessons about resilience,
responsible financial management, and the supportive role of family. The experience
remains a source of guidance, shaping my approach towards money and reinforcing the
importance of gratitude for the lessons learned during tough times.
B. What was the most significant opportunity cost you have incurred in your life?
What have you learned from the situation?
In 2020, I enrolled in BSIT program with high hopes of enjoying my studies.
However, the teaching style and a toxic environment in our block made it difficult to keep
up with coursework especially during a full online class. I expected fulfillment in the
BSIT program but found the teaching method exhausting, and our block had a toxic
atmosphere, making my academic journey challenging. Reflecting on my choices, I saw
the opportunity cost of investing time and effort in a course that didn't suit me. This cost
wasn't just a delay in progress but also missing out on potential experiences that could
have enriched my life.
Despite challenges and costs, the experience pushed me to reconsider my choices. I
decided to prioritize my true passions and made the bold move to change my academic
path. This led me to discover a course that resonates with me, bringing joy to my
academic journey. The significant opportunity cost became a catalyst for personal growth.
It taught me to carefully consider major decisions, ensuring they align with my

aspirations. The experience also instilled in me the courage to pivot when needed,
emphasizing that genuine happiness should never be compromised.
My academic journey, marked by challenges and a significant opportunity cost,
became a valuable lesson in making thoughtful choices and prioritizing happiness. It
encouraged self-reflection, resilience, and the understanding that embracing one's true
passions leads to a more fulfilling and enriching path in academics and life.
