1. What is history?
History concerns the study of the record of events that happened in the past, based on different reliable
sources. It describes a whole series of events in relation to something, it can be a person, event, problems, or
even things/objects. For example, the history of the Philippines shows how it is found, the challenges the
country encountered (e.g. invaders), who are the first humans present in the country etc. In the simplest term,
History is the study of the past.

2. What is the importance of studying history?


History can tell us what happened in the past. It can help us to understand where we came from, which
can contribute to the better understanding of ourselves. History can also show us the disastrous events and how
the human race solved or conquer that problem. By studying history, we can give honor to those who have
sacrificed a lot for the human race and for their great contributions that resulted in the development of the
world.
Studying history shows us the changes that happened in the society and can guide us for better decisions
in the future. For example, we can be prepared or take precautionary measures for the natural disasters that can
happen in our country since we have a history of it, one example in the history of our country is the Typhoon
Yolanda.

3. Define Primary and secondary sources of History


Primary sources are first-hand information or experience of the events, people, and other things you are
studying. It provides information from people who had a direct connection to the event that you are studying.
Example of primary sources are information from interviews, statistical data, memoirs, and many others.
Secondary sources, from the word "secondary", are sources that provides second-hand data or
information. Secondary sources often analyze the data from the primary sources. The information that can be
found in the secondary sources are comments, analysis, interpretation, or summarization of the primary sources
that they are studying. One of the most common examples of these sources are the review of related literature,
which can be found mostly in research articles.

4.Give at least 2 Philippine National hero, and explain his contribution to Philippine history?
a) Andres Bonifacio – founder of the Katipunan, that led the rebellion against Spain. His most notable
contribution to the Philippine history was he’s the one who declared the independence of the Philippines
in the year 1896. He was the father of revolution who led our country to freedom from the
colonialization of the Spanish people.
b) Antonio Luna – known for his bravery in fighting for the Philippines in the Philippine-American war.
He organized the professional Guerilla soldiers known as the “Luna sharpshooters” or the “Black
guard”. Antonio Luna is a war hero. He was also the founder of the first Philippine military academy.
