2) Find the deflection at the centre of a simply supported beam of span length “l”
subjected to uniformly distributed load throughout its length as shown in figure
using (a) point collocation method, (b) sub-domain method, (c) Least squares
method, and (d) Galerkin’s method.

3) Consider the differential equation 𝒅𝟐𝒚 𝒅𝒙𝟐 + 𝟒𝟎𝟎𝒙𝟐 = 𝟎 for 𝟎 ≤ 𝒙 ≤ 𝟏 subject to

[E]=2.1×105𝑵/𝒎𝒎𝟐, [ρ] = 7800 𝑲𝒈/𝒎𝟑

2. Consider the simply supported beam shown in fig. let the length L=1m,
E=2×1011𝑵/𝒎𝟐, area of cross section A=30Cm2, moment of inertia I=100mm4,
density [ρ] = 7800𝑲𝒈/𝒎𝟑. Determine the natural frequency using two types of
mass matrix. Lumped mass matrix and consistent mass matrix.

3. For a tapered plate of uniform thickness t = 10mm as shown in fig. find the
displacements at the nodes by forming in to two element model. The bar has
mass density ρ = 7800𝑲𝒈/𝒎𝟑 Young’s modulus E = 2×105𝑴𝑵/𝒎𝟐. In addition
to self weight the plate is subjected to a point load p = 10KN at its centre. Also
determine the reaction force at the support.
