|| 2 Proofs on Prophet Muhammad (‫ ) ﷺ‬did Rafa`yadain till his death ||

‫ وبعد‬، ‫بسم هللا والحمد هلل والصالة والسالم على رسول هللا‬

Proof 1: Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar:

‫ َب ْك ِر ْب ِن ُس َلْي َم اَن ْب ِن َأِبي َح ْث َم َة‬،‫ َو َأِبي‬، ‫ َع ْن َس اِلٍم‬،‫ َع ِن اْب ِن ِش َه اٍب‬،‫ َق اَل َح َّد َث ِني َع ْبُد الَّر ْح َم ِن ْبُن َخ اِلٍد‬، ‫ َق اَل َح َّد َث ِني الَّلْي ُث‬، ‫َح َّد َث َن ا َس ِع يُد ْبُن ُع َفْي ٍر‬
‫ َف ِإَّن َر ْأَس‬،‫ َف َلَّما َس َّلَم َق اَم َفَقاَل “ َأَر َأْي َت ُك ْم َلْي َلَت ُك ْم َه ِذِه‬،‫ َق اَل َص َّلى ِبَن ا الَّن ِبُّي صلى هللا عليه وسلم اْلِع َش اَء ِفي آِخ ِر َح َي اِتِه‬، ‫َأَّن َع ْبَد ِهَّللا ْب َن ُع َمَر‬
.” ‫ِم اَئ ِة َس َن ٍة ِم ْن َه ا َال َي ْب َقى ِمَّمْن ُه َو َع َلى َظ ْه ِر اَألْر ِض َأَح ٌد‬

English Translation:

Once the Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬led us in the `Isha’ prayer during the last days of his life and after finishing it
(the prayer) (with Taslim) he said: “Do you realize (the importance of) this night?” Nobody present on
the surface of the earth tonight will be living after the completion of one hundred years from this night.”

Urdu Translation:

‫ ان سے عبدالرحٰم ن بن خالد بن مسافر نے ابن شہاب کے واسطے‬، ‫ ان سے لیث نے بیان کیا‬، ‫سعید بن عفیر نے ہم سے بیان کیا‬
‫ انھوں نے سالم اور ابوبکر بن سلیمان بن ابی حثمہ سے روایت کیا کہحضرت عبدہللا بن عمر رضی ہللا عنہما نے‬، ‫سے بیان کیا‬
‫فرمایا کہ آخر عمر میں ( ایک دفعہ ) رسول ہللا صلی ہللا علیہ وسلم نے ہمیں عشاء کی نماز پڑھائی ۔ جب آپ صلی ہللا علیہ وسلم‬
‫نے سالم پھیرا تو کھڑے ہو گئے اور فرمایا کہ تمہاری آج کی رات وہ ہے کہ اس رات سے سو برس کے آخر تک کوئی شخص‬
‫جو زمین پر ہے وہ باقی نہیں رہے گا ۔‬

Note: Nafi (Tabien) Nabi ke wafat ke 30 saal ke baad Ibne Umar r.a ke Gulami me aaye.

Narrated Nafi`:

Whenever Ibn `Umar started the prayer with Takbir, he used to raise his hands: whenever he bowed, he
used to raise his hands (before bowing) and also used to raise his hands on saying, “Sami`a l-lahu liman
hamidah”, and he used to do the same on rising from the second rak`a (for the 3rd rak`a). Ibn `Umar
said: “The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬used to do the same.”
 ‫ َو ِإَذ ا َر َك َع َر َف َع‬،‫ َك اَن ِإَذ ا َد َخ َل ِفي الَّص َالِة َك َّبَر َو َر َف َع َي َد ْيِه‬، ‫ َأَّن اْب َن ُع َمَر‬، ‫ َع ْن َن اِفٍع‬،‫ َق اَل َح َّد َث َن ا ُع َب ْيُد ِهَّللا‬،‫ َقاَل َح َّد َث َن ا َع ْبُد اَألْع َلى‬، ‫َح َّد َث َن ا َع َّياٌش‬
‫ َر َو اُه‬.‫ َو َر َف َع َذ ِلَك اْبُن ُع َمَر ِإَلى َن ِبِّي ِهَّللا صلى هللا عليه وسلم‬.‫ َو ِإَذ ا َق اَم ِمَن الَّر ْك َع َت ْي ِن َر َف َع َي َد ْيِه‬،‫ َر َف َع َي َد ْيِه‬.‫ َو ِإَذ ا َق اَل َس ِمَع ُهَّللا ِلَم ْن َح ِمَدُه‬،‫َي َد ْيِه‬
.‫ َو َر َو اُه اْبُن َط ْه َم اَن َع ْن َأُّيوَب َو ُموَس ى ْب ِن ُع ْق َب َة ُم ْخ َت َص ًر ا‬.‫َح َّم اُد ْبُن َس َلَم َة َع ْن َأُّيوَب َع ْن َن اِفٍع َع ِن اْب ِن ُع َمَر َع ِن الَّن ِبِّي صلى هللا عليه وسلم‬

Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 739.

Note: From above 2 hadith it is clear that Abdullah bin `Umar (radiyallaahu ‘anh) had seen Prophet
Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬praying in his Last time,And Prophet Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬did Rafa`yadain in his Last
time.Nauzubillah Abdullah bin `Umar (radiyallaahu ‘anh) will never intentionally oppose the Sunnah if
the Rafa`yadain would have been Mansookh he would have never done Rafa`yadain before and after
the Ruku.

Imam Bukhari said after quoting the rout from Nafi:

The scholars I have see from Hijaz and Iraq in them are: Abdullah bin Zubair (al humedi), Ali bin Abdullah
bin Jafar (Al madeeni), Yahya bin Maieen, Ahmad bin Humble and Ishaq bin Rahwee. These were great
scholars of their era. Not even single scholar had hadeeth of not raising hands from Prophet peace be
upon him nor from Companions of Prophet peace be upon him

– [Juzz al Rafayadain after hadeeth no: 40]

Proof 2. Wa’il b. Hujr reported:

‫ َلُهْم‬،‫ َو َم ْو ًلى‬، ‫ َع ْن َع ْلَقَم َة ْب ِن َو اِئٍل‬، ‫ َح َّد َث ِني َع ْبُد اْلَج َّباِر ْبُن َو اِئٍل‬،‫ َح َّد َث َن ا ُم َح َّم ُد ْبُن ُج َح اَد َة‬،‫ َح َّد َث َن ا َه َّماٌم‬، ‫ َح َّد َث َن ا َع َّفاُن‬،‫َح َّد َث َن ا ُز َه ْيُر ْبُن َح ْر ٍب‬
– ‫ َأَّن ُه َر َأى الَّن ِبَّي صلى هللا عليه وسلم َر َف َع َي َد ْيِه ِحيَن َد َخ َل ِفي الَّص َالِة َك َّبَر – َو َص َف َه َّماٌم ِحَي اَل ُأُذ َن ْيِه‬، ‫ َو اِئِل ْب ِن ُحْج ٍر‬،‫َأَّنُهَم ا َح َّد َث اُه َع ْن َأِبيِه‬
‫ُثَّم اْلَت َح َف ِبَث ْو ِبِه ُثَّم َو َض َع َي َدُه اْلُيْم َن ى َع َلى اْلُيْس َر ى َف َلَّما َأَر اَد َأْن َي ْر َك َع َأْخ َر َج َي َد ْيِه ِمَن الَّث ْو ِب ُثَّم َر َفَع ُهَم ا ُثَّم َك َّبَر َف َر َك َع َف َلَّما َق اَل “ َس ِمَع ُهَّللا‬
. ‫ َر َف َع َي َد ْيِه َفَلَّما َس َج َد َسَج َد َب ْي َن َكَّفْيِه‬. ” ‫ِلَم ْن َح ِمَدُه‬

He saw the Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬raising his hands at the time of beginning the prayer and reciting
takbir, and according to Hammam (the narrator), the hands were lifted opposite to ears. He (the Holy
Prophet) then wrapped his hands in his cloth and placed his right hand over his left hand. And when he
was about to bow down, he brought out his hands from the cloth, and then lifted them, and then recited
takbir and bowed down, and when (he came back to the erect position) he recited:” Allah listened to
him who praised Him.” And when he prostrated, he prostrated between his two palms.

Note:
Wail bin Hujr visited Prophet peace be upon him in 9th hijri.[Al Bidaya wal Nihaya vol 5 page 71]

Aini hanafi said: Wail bin Hujr accepted Islam in Madeenah on 9th hijri.[Umda tul Qari Vol 5 Page 274
under the hadeeth no: 735]

It is mentioned in Saheeh Ibn Hibban that he visited Prophet peace be upon him next year in winter Vol
3 page 169 hadeeth no: 1857 [meaning he visited him in 10th h again] and he saw Raising hands this
year again[Sunan Abi Dawud no: 727]

Shaykh Tayyb ur Rahman Said: Prophet peace be upon him died in 11th hijri and there is no evidence
that this(rafa yadain) is abrogated[Namaz e Nabvi page 134].

From Above Proof its clear that Wail bin Hujr Accepted Islam and met Prophet Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬in 9
Hijri, and met him again next year in winter.

And He used to do Rafa yadain.

Hence proved that Prophet Muhammad (‫ ) ﷺ‬did Rafa`yadain till 10 Hijri.And, Prophet Muhammad (
‫ ) ﷺ‬died in 11 Hijri.
