General Information
In keeping with the NESA (NSW Education Standards Authority) assessment and reporting guidelines, the Year 10 Student Report is
presented with a variety of Reporting Outcomes.

The purpose of the Student Report is to provide:

feedback to parents, students, and the community

information that is clear, unambiguous, and has direct links with the NESA syllabus outcomes

Each individual report has used a range of assessment tasks to compare the students' work against the standards framework of
syllabus outcomes. These tasks are set out in the Year 10 Handbook. The students' achievements have been monitored on an
individual basis and have been compared with the achievement of the other students.

We have reported this to you by means of:

a Course Outline that provides a brief outline of the nature of the course studied during this reporting period.

a Cumulative Assessment Mark is represented as a raw percentage score.

a Cumulative Assessment Rank that states the position of the student in the course based on the cumulative marks of the
completed assessment tasks to date.

a Course Grade based on the NESA Common Grade Scale for all courses studied during this reporting period.

The Common Grade Scale describes performance at each of five grade levels

Teacher's Comment Gabriel's work ethic and behaviour in class have shown satisfactory progress. He generally initiates his work and
remains on task, which has allowed him to make steady progress. His Term 3 'Macbeth' Essay displayed a
reasonable level of preparation and effort. It is worth noting that he did not take the opportunity to submit a draft
response for feedback, which could have further improved his work. In Term 4, during the Yearly Examination, he
continued to demonstrate a decent level of effort and planning, although there was room for further refinement,
despite ample opportunities for revision. Overall, his performance has been acceptable, and with continued effort
and attention to detail, he is capable of improvement in the coming years.

Teacher's Comment Gabriel is to be congratulated on a good result in Mathematics Stage 5.3. It has been pleasing to see his growth in
learner agency in the latter part of this year and he is developing an understanding that success in mathematics is
the result of hard work and perseverance. Gabriel’s result in the recent Quadratic Expressions and Equations
assessment task was sound and demonstrated an understanding of many of the concepts covered. His rank in this
task was higher than in previous tasks and is indicative of his increased effort and engagement in mathematics and
his focus on setting out. Gabriel may benefit from focusing on factorising first before cancelling when simplifying
algebraic expressions. He is encouraged to complete Mastery questions in his own time to ensure that a wide
variety of problems are solved. This could assist him when solving unfamiliar problems.

Commerce (100 hours)
Gabriel Saavedra - Teacher: Mr Scott Stretton - 2023 Year 10 Yearly Report

Course outline
The aim of the Commerce course is to enable young people to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to research and develop solutions
to consumer, financial, economic, business, legal, political and employment issues in order to make informed and responsible decisions as
individuals and as part of the community.

Application Profile

BEHAVIOUR: Conduct and attitude within the classroom. Consideration and respect towards others and their learning Excellent

DILIGENCE: Self-management, self-reflection, independently motivated. Resolute, conscientious, commitment towards Very Good
classwork and home learning.

ENGAGEMENT: Concentration, communication, punctuality and contribution Very Good

Application Profile - Comments

Teacher's Comment Gabriel is an inquisitive and enthusiastic Commerce student who has shown considerable application to his studies
this year. In the recent Yearly Examination, it was particularly pleasing to see Gabriel’s understanding of difficult
legal and economic concepts. His responses were rich in content and had very clear and discernible arguments.
However, his Legal Presentation lacked the depth and necessary details required to achieve a result of which he is
capable. Gabriel is encouraged to focus on time management and ensure tasks are started, drafted and edited well
before the due date. Maintaining a healthy study pattern throughout the year will also see a rise in results.

Application Profile - Comments

Teacher's Comment Gabriel has demonstrated a good attitude towards his studies and has worked well throughout the year. His Yearly
Examination result demonstrated a sound knowledge and understanding of places and environments, and the
geographical processes that form and transform them. Gabriel's Pioneer Dairy Field Trip Report demonstrated
sound skills regarding how to display primary data effectively and how to apply geographical concepts to a field
investigation. In particular, Gabriel could focus on structuring his written work more logically, supporting each
statement with suitable evidence and submitting draft work for feedback and editing to improve the quality of the
final product. Gabriel is also encouraged to use more subject-specific terminology.

Application Profile - Comments

Teacher's Comment Gabriel has attained a commendable outcome in History. The Yearly Examination performance reflects a strong
grasp of all studied topics, including Changing Rights and Freedoms, Australia's role in World War Two, and the
Holocaust. Moreover, he collaborated with enthusiasm to produce an exceptionally well-presented Decade Party
project. This task effectively researched and communicated the significant social, cultural, and historical features of
a selected decade in the latter half of the 20th century. As Gabriel progresses into senior studies, he should focus
on cultivating a consistent study and revision routine to optimise his academic potential.
