I. OBJECTIVES

1. create appropriate costumes, props, set accessories, costumes improvised lighting and
other décor for Philippine plays
2. create/improvise appropriate sound, music, gesture, and movements for a chosen
theatrical composition
3. participate in an original performance inspired by local Philippine stories, myths, and
events relevant to current issues.

c) create a stage play that portraying the current issues facing by the Filipino .

Philippine Theatre and Performing
Groups.

Discussion
A story is acted out on stage by actors
Would you mind to read the definition of portraying the characters, bringing them to
theatre, Ms. Ramos? life and developing the plot through
dialogue and actions, and sometimes
through song or dance.

theatre is the one of the major art forms that
brings together all the other art forms –
from painting and sculpture, to installation
art, to music, to dance, to literature, even to
computer arts – in a single production.

Below is an overview of some of the


famous prominent theatre and performing
groups in the country and their major
productions.

Philippine Educational Theater


Association (PETA)

Founded by Cecille Guidote – Alvarez in


1967, with the vision of a Philippine
Theater engaged in the development of
people and society.

The following are some of the plays that


performed in PETA through the leadership
of the founder Cecille Guidote.

Please read the first one, Mr. Buquel. • CAREDIVAS (2011) is a


disarmingly funny and candid

performed under Tanghalang Pinoy.
Tanghalang Pilipino

The resident theater company of the


Cultural Center of the Philippines and
founded in 1987. Develop and train actors,
playwrights, and designers with special
emphasis on the production of original
Filipino plays.

The following are some of the plays


performed under Tanghalang Pinoy.

1. Himala (2004)  Himala (2004) (English: Miracle) is


a 1982 filipino film directed
by Ishmael Bernal and produced by
the Experimental Cinema of the
Philippines. It stars Nora Aunor as a
young woman living in the province
who claims to have seen a Maria
apparition.

And the second one please read, Mr. Perez.

2. William (2011)  “William” (2011) A Filipino


translation of William Shakespeare's
Coriolanus, the play re-examines the
life of a Roman soldier admired for
his valor and military supremacy but
disdained for his arrogance and
pride, a testament to Shakespeare's
complex characters. Although one of
Shakepeare's lesser-known plays, the
narrative proves timely for today's

3. Ibalong (2012) • Ibalong (2012) tells the story of a
league of warriors, led by

Tangere, Tanghalang Pinoy makes a

the Filipino tale under the Spanish
colonial and religious life.

originated in the Philippines?

all over the country. These plays help us to
empower our identity as Filipino and it is
also a great way to preserve our culture, our
story, our life as a Filipino. So, let’s always
embrace our own product not only in theatre
but everything that originated here in the
Precisely, Mr. Baccay. Philippines.
