III. PROCEDURE

REVIEW

Now, who can recall/review our previous

lesson?

You learned from the past lesson that valid

evidence is true, reasonable information that is
based on fact and that supports an argument.
Not everything you find on the internet is valid
and correct. It is better if you have your
credible sources and strong evidence. Having
enough evidence to back up your claim is
highly recommended to have an effective
presentation of ideas and validity of evidence
for a text.

MOTIVATION: Let’s get started!

Before we formally begin with the lesson
proper, let’s have a warm up activity. Let us
watch a short video clip. https://youtu.be/Cxf-
m9pU7pQ?si=fSDZB5IvL2kz6uKZ

Asks the following questions:

1. What is the commercial all about? The commercial is all about the cornetto ice
cream.

2. What have you observe on the video? The video talks about how cheaper cornetto is.
And it can make your day buy just eating it.

3. Do you usually believe in everything Yes ma’am/No ma’am.

that the advertisement on TV showed
you?
We should all be aware that not all that we see
and hear are true. Many product advertising
attempt to elicit an emotional response from their
target consumers since, without a doubt, emotion
is a powerful force that influences our choices and
decisions. To prevent this dilemma, you must learn
to spot faulty logic, unsupported facts, and
emotional appeals.

Yes, Ma’am.
Now class, are you ready for our new topic?

Our topic for today is all about Faulty Logic,

Unsupported Facts and Emotional Appeal.
a. EN9LC-6.5: Recognize faulty logic,
But before that let’s read the objectives for unsupported facts, and emotional appeal.

presents faulty logic, unsupported facts, and
emotional appeal.

the material viewed
UNLOCKING OF DIFFICULTIES d. Show self- reliance when working
independently.
Let’s us first decipher or unlock the difficult
words.

We are going to have a crossword puzzle

activity. The words that you are going to
complete are related to our topic.

Direction: read the following clues and fill out

the cross puzzle.

4. Something that has really occurred or
true.

ABSTRACTION:

The teacher discusses the lesson. The learners

acquire knowledge regarding the following
points:

What is Faulty Logic?

 Faulty means having faults or

imperfect. Logic means reason or sound
judgment. Therefore, faulty logic means
an imperfect reason.

We see faulty logic in newspaper editorials,

commercials, print ads, conversations, books,
magazines and TV shows.

Example:
1.Fireshells is a great restaurant, you can see
how neat and clean the place is.

“The example shows faulty logic as the

restaurant cannot simply be said as great just
because it is clean. It may be a neat and clean
restaurant but it can also have awful service
and terrible cuisines.”

2. Mrs. Lopez is an incompetent mother. She

always wears an apron.

“Why do you think class that this statement “I think that the statement is an example of faulty
describe faulty logic?” logic because Mrs. Lopez competence as a mother
was based on earing apron. Just because she always
wears an apron does not mean she is incompetent.
What are unsupported facts?
 Unsupported facts are not supported by
written evidence.

Example:
She said that your stink.

“This is an example of unsupported fact since

there is no explanation why the person is said
to stink, and there is no evidence presented that
will indicate the smell of the person.”

What is an emotional appeal?

 An emotional appeal is a method of
persuasion that’s designed to create an
emotional response.

Example:
1.A mouthwash commercial shows two people just
waking up in the morning with the words “Yuck
Morning breath, the worst breath of the day.”

“In this example, the commercial wants the

viewers to feel bad about their morning breath
and make them need mouthwash to ease the
bad feeling.” Yes ma’am

2. A college student asks his professor to

accept a late paper: “I’ve worked all weekend
on this report. I know that it is pass your
deadline, but I have to work fulltime while also
attending college.”

“Why do you think class that this statement

describe emotional appeal?”
“This example shows usage of emotional appeal as the
student asks his professor to accept his paper by
telling his pitiful situation.

Do you have any questions/clarifications?

None, ma’am.
Alright, this time I will test your understanding
about what we have discussed a while ago.

DEEPEN: Guided Practice

We will watch a music video “A Time for us”

from a popular romantic tragic play, Romeo
and Juliet.

Are you ready everyone?

Direction: Describe a particular scene from

the music video “A Time for Us” that presents
faulty logic, unsupported facts, and emotional
appeal.

Guided Questions:
1. What scene in the music video presents
faulty logic? Faulty Logic scene:
 When Romeo use poison to kill himself
because he thought Juliet was dead but she
was just sleeping. Then Juliet saw Romeo
on the floor and she decided to drink
poison to take her life.

2. What scene presents unsupported facts?

Unsupported Fact scene:
 When Romeo and Juliet fell in love at
first sight.
3. What scene in the music video presents
faulty logic? Emotional Appeal scene:
 When Romeo and Juliet both died.

Unsupported facts?
Emotional Appeal?

TRANSFER/APPLICATION:

IV. ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION

lines on the corresponding column.

During the pandemic, many of us divert

our attention to the things that will take away
our boredom. One of these is by collecting and
planting different plants especially cactus.
Some are called “plantitos” and “plantitas”.
They say planting helps boost their immune
system. All of us will be happy if we buy
plants. Many losses their job because of this
pandemic. To relieve stress, some deviate their
attention in gardening. Planting gives them
pleasure and eases some of their burden. That
is why there is a high demand in plants these
days. Some want to be happy that's why they
buy plants first than anything else. Let us find
ways on how to be happy even this time of
pandemic.
