Concept : To create an atmosphere that feels open
and full potential.

Introduction :
The Moody Center for the Arts (MCA) is a cutting-
edge facility fostering collaboration between arts,
sciences, and humanities. It offers diverse spaces
for instruction, production, performance, and
exhibitions, providing valuable resources for
students, faculty, researchers, artists, and scientists
alike.
The first floor includes a 150-seat
Studio Theater, the Skylight
Gallery, Central Gallery, Entry
Gallery, and two Media Arts
Galleries.

Interdisciplinary maker labs


including a wood shop, metal
shop, paint booth, rapid
prototyping areas, and a
student classroom are
dispersed on the ground floor.

FIRST FLOOR PLAN


The second floor features a breakout study area,
three classrooms, a large studio, an artist’s
studio, a technology lending library, audiovisual
editing booths, and a café that bridges the
public spaces of the ground level.

The Moody Center for the Arts has an interior design that promotes openness
and inspiration. Sightlines connect different spaces, providing multiple views of
the wide range of activities happening in production, instruction, and exhibition
areas. These sightlines also extend along major corridors, creating an easy and
direct pathway for visitors, students, and faculty to navigate the building and
engage with the campus. This design ensures convenient access to studios,
classrooms, and shops, enhancing the overall functionality and accessibility of
the facility
Centralized "Creative Open Studio": This flexible space serves as the heart of
the building, encouraging interaction and collaboration between different
artistic disciplines. The open layout and lack of fixed walls allow for
impromptu gatherings, workshops, and performances, fostering a dynamic
and cross-pollinated environment.
A wide stair rises from the first floor and turns back toward the
building’s interior at the northern end of the creative open
studio. The stairs create an amphitheater that serves as an
informal social space and connects the various adjacent
program areas in section.

The design elements of the Moody Center for the Arts combine modern innovation with a nod to the historic campus. The
exterior cladding, made of manganese ironspot brick, changes color based on environmental conditions, giving the building a
unique appearance. Unlike traditional bricks on campus, this brick can appear black, purple, silver, or pink, adding a distinctive
touch to the building's aesthetic.
ROY AND DIANA VAGELOS EDUCATION CENTRE

Location : New York City
Concept : The building's curved shape reflects the
human body's flow, symbolizing growth and
transformation.

Introduction :
The Roy and Diana Vagelos Education Center at
Columbia University Medical Center is a modern
building completed in 2016. It represents a new
approach to medical education, moving away from
lectures to team-based problem solving. The design
creatively uses the limited space available, and the
building features a 14-story glass tower with a
unique 'Study Cascade' that provides various social
and study areas for informal learning and
collaboration.
The north elevation of the Roy and Diana Vagelos Education Center is
dedicated to focused, specialized learning spaces. These areas include
flexible classrooms, anatomy laboratories, and a simulation center.

Where as south elevation includes study cascade. Study Cascade are


designed for collaborative learning and teaching, and open onto outdoor
spaces.
The building has a base footprint of 12,500 square feet that
gradually slims down to 6,000 square feet on the upper floors.

Concept :

Introduction :
Petronas University of Technology was founded in
1997 and is the region's largest academic centre for
the study of civil, mechanical, chemical and
electrical engineering. Fully funded by the
Malaysian oil company Petronas, it aims to combine
the best academic training with hands-on industrial
experience to produce a new generation of
graduates who can contribute to the country's
industrial development.
Set in hilly and forested terrain
300 km north of Kuala Lumpur,
the University of Technology
Petronas responds both to the
physical landscape and to the
weather patterns of the Malay
peninsula. In terms of scale, its
radial geometry is more
consistent with town planning
than with conventional building.

SITE PLAN
FLOOR PLAN
The campus’s main entrance, is the drum-like chancellor complex, rising 21 metres
and around 150 metres in diameter, it comprises two crescent-shaped halves
connected by a public plaza. One half of it houses the university library and
resource centre. The other half contains a 3,000-seat multi-purpose auditorium.

SECTION
• The main academic buildings containing classrooms and research facilities, rising four stories, are arranged around the base of
the site’s hills in groups of four or five rectangles that are not set parallelly, but in a way that their short sides trace curves.
• The curves closest to the park are then connected by a series of canopies made of insulated metal decking and supported by
slender tubular steel columns. The result is a five-pointed star formed by five semi-circles.
WEST CAMPUS UNION, DUKE UNIVERSITY

Introduction :
Duke University’s West Campus Union, the new
student union re-establishes itself as the
centerpiece for student life and the communal
heart of Duke’s historic campus. Fostering social
interaction, inspiring healthful lifestyles and
delivering state-of-the-art culinary excellence, the
building brings the Duke community together in an
exciting environment that unites the University’s
storied history with an active, communal and
contemporary experience.
The old spaces were restored to
their original design, while the
building's core was replaced and
redesigned.

The new building showcases


culinary food exploration and
education.
Exposed kitchens add vibrancy, and
the redesigned core offers a
seamless "market" experience,
distinct from historic dining halls.

Steel and glass balconies offer new perspectives on the historic
past, nestled within the gothic wood trusses.

Student life areas lounges and meeting rooms in the east wing
The building concept is traditional gathering around the meal and encouraging the idea of coming together in garden to
commune and learn. The exposed kitchen style cafeteria is inspired from the market theme providing lively environment.

The south-facing façade features a 37ft tall suspended


curtain wall supported by stainless steel rods. Lateral loads
are resisted by horizontal glass fins. Terracotta and steel fins
wrap around the building, framing the curtain wall and
providing solar shading.
NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DESIGN, AHMEDABAD

Location : Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Introduction :
National Institute of Design (NID) is a design school
in Paldi, Ahmedabad, Gujarat was established in
Ahmedabad in 1961 by the Government of as an
autonomous national institution for advanced
training, research and service in product design,
visual communication, architecture, structure
planning and allied fields NID Ahmedabad is the
only campus with graduation and post
graduation courses.

The site is adjacent to the Sabarmati river


and located inbetween other institutions.
The site is 4km from the railway station and
3km
from the St. bus stand, Main Access of the
SITE PLAN site is from the main road
Ground floor consists of Exhibition halls, admin
areas, faculty rooms and faculty lounge labs,
project room, board room, washrooms.
The block is accessible from 3 sides. One way
connects to exhibition halls, open to the admin
and one from the canteen outside.

All the labs and studios are on the first floor. Where as second floor has faculty room of departments and
classrooms.

Introduction :
CEPT University, formerly the Centre for
Environmental Planning and Technology, is an
academic institution located near University Area
in Ahmedabad, India offering undergraduate,
postgraduate and doctoral programmes in areas of
natural and developed environment of human
society and related disciplines.
