Design Tool:

Goal To collaborate with the groupmates to design their own Periodic Table of
Elements Card or Board Game.

Role You and your groupmates are game creators and designers.

Audience Grade 8 Students and Science Teachers.

Situation The periodic table is a brief encyclopedia of elements. The table tells you pretty
much everything about the element, what is its size, how it reacts, its physical
state, etc. Lots of information to grasp by the learners but the application of games
may help them to learn the concepts and assist them in learning scientific skills as
they play.

Standards Choose either of the two:
A Periodic Card Game
A Periodic Board Game
Your Periodic Game may present details about the elements’:
Chemical symbol, atomic number, group, period, trends, etc.
Your Card or Board Game shall have clear and concise rules on how to play.

Materials:
Used folders, cardboard, scissors, glue, scotch tape, marker, coloring materials, and colored papers, use
any material you want as long as it’s safe and within reason.

Procedure:
1. Have a meeting with your groupmates to plan and design your card/board game about periodic
table of elements. This has to be done before March 4, 5 when you are going to start your
project.
2. Your card/ board game should have printed “Directions” on how to play. Make sure that the
direction of the game is easy to follow.
3. If it’s a board game, should not be bigger than 2 feet. Make sure that the card or board game has
a storage box for easy access before and after playing.
4. The card/ board game shall use different colors and/ or types of materials to represent the
elements and other information of periodic table.
5. The game should have the correct details about elements and the periodic table. Use the
periodic table and ask your science teacher if you have questions.
6. Be creative in the design of your card/board game.
7. The output must include an attached information tag (The name of the game, grade & section,
group number, name of members, and the name of the science teacher).
8. The output will be exhibited to showcase the works of students and motivate them to present
their ideas in a better way.
9. March 4, 5- is the schedule to start working on the output. To be done during SCIENCE TIME
ONLY. To be continued at home.
10. Deadline for the final output: March 7-8, 2024
11. March 7,9- schedule when the students play their Board/Card Game. To be used only during
SCIENCE TIME.
12. Schedule of the Exhibit: March 12-15, 2024
13. Refer to the samples provided below. Go to the link to study the samples from the net to help
you design your own Periodic Card/ Board Game.

NOTE:
Be creative in your use of materials and construction. It is very easy to tell when students put
forth great effort to create their outputs; likewise, it's very easy to tell when someone threw their
output together at the last minute. DON'T PROCRASTINATE! Be sure to ask questions if you have them.
