INTRODUCTION

1.0 INTRODUCTION

This chapter covers the introduction of research, including background,

problem statement, and purpose of study, objective of study, research question and
also, we will cover in this chapter scope of the study as well as project organization
of the study.
the design and implementation of a web-based booking and reservation management
system for wedding halls. Wedding halls are an important part of the wedding
industry and play a crucial role in making the big day a memorable one for the
couples and their families.

The Wedding Hall Booking and Reservation Management System is designed

to streamline the process of booking and reserving wedding halls for events. This
system offers a comprehensive solution that simplifies the process of managing
reservations and bookings, making it easier for both the customers and the wedding
hall management team to keep track of upcoming weddings.
According to Jane Smith, "Using a wedding hall management system can
greatly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of managing wedding hall bookings
and reservations. With real-time updates on hall availability, customers can easily
book their preferred dates and times, and event hall management teams can optimize
their operations by reducing the time spent on manual record-keeping and
streamlining their workflows.

Moreover, the system helps the event hall management team manage their
operations more efficiently. It eliminates the need for manual record-keeping, which
can be time-consuming and error-prone, and provides valuable insights into their
business operations. (Smith, 2020)

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT

Web-based wedding hall booking and reservation management systems have

been around for several years now. In the past, booking and reserving wedding halls
were done through manual processes, such as phone calls or in-person visits to the
venue. However, as technology advanced and the internet became more accessible,
the need for a more efficient and convenient booking process arose.

The first web-based booking systems were developed in the early 2000s and
were primarily used in the travel and hospitality industries. These systems offered a
simple and easy-to-use platform for customers to book hotels, flights, and other
travel-related services. As the demand for online booking systems grew, the
technology evolved to meet the specific needs of other industries, including wedding
hall management.

Today, web-based wedding hall booking and reservation management

systems are widely used by event hall management teams and customers alike. These
systems provide a more streamlined and automated approach to managing

2
reservations and bookings, making it easier for customers to find and book their
preferred wedding hall while reducing the workload of the management team.
(Martinez, 2019)

Africa has a rich cultural heritage that has been preserved and celebrated
through various traditional events and ceremonies, including weddings. African
weddings are known for their vibrant colors, lively music, and elaborate decorations
that reflect the region's diverse cultural traditions.

In recent years, the wedding industry in Africa has been growing rapidly,
with an increasing demand for modern and sophisticated wedding venues and
services. This growth has been driven by the continent's economic development, a
rising middle class, and a shift towards more westernized lifestyles. As a result, there
has been a growing need for efficient and reliable wedding hall booking and
reservation management systems to meet the demand of the rapidly expanding
market.

1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT

the major challenge faced by wedding venues is the inefficient management

of bookings and reservations, leading to errors and lost revenue. Traditional methods
involving manual data entry and paper-based systems are often prone to errors, time-
consuming, and lack real-time data for informed decision-making. This can lead to
missed opportunities and negatively impact the bottom line of the business (Market
Research Future, 2018).

3
A dedicated wedding hall booking and reservation management system can
solve these problems by automating the booking process, reducing errors, and
providing real-time data for efficient decision-making.

Finally, by providing real-time data on bookings and reservations, these

systems make it easier for businesses to manage their staff, inventory, and other
resources. This can lead to more efficient operations, better customer service, and
increased profitability.

1.3 PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

The purpose of the wedding hall booking and reservation management

system is to provide an efficient and streamlined approach to managing reservations,
bookings, and related tasks in the wedding industry.

The system will provide a centralized database for all reservation-related

information, reducing errors and inconsistencies. The goal is to improve customer
satisfaction, increase efficiency, and ultimately increase revenue for wedding hall
businesses.

1.4 PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The importance of efficient management of wedding hall booking and

reservation cannot be overemphasized as it is critical to the success of any event
planning business. The objectives of this project are:

1. To develop a user-friendly web-based platform for wedding hall booking and

reservation management system.

4
1. To study current wedding hall booking management system
2. To analysis new web based for wedding hall booking management system
3. To design new web based for wedding hall booking management system
4. To implement new web based for wedding hall booking management system.

1.5 PROJECT SCOPE

The scope of this study, which is equally the domain or the problem area is
particularly the case study of this research work "XYZ HOTEL" and it is to provide
a program that will effectively handle the operations of a Wedding Hall Booking and
Reservation Management System.

A program that will be interactive one, which means there will be at

time/opportunities for operator to supply data to the computer. The system will also
be user-friendly and intuitive, providing a seamless booking experience for
customers and efficient management tools for administrators. This project is being
conducted as a requirement for graduation from the University of Somalia (UNISO).

• This system will use web application technology PHP as front page and MY
SQL as back end.
• For testing purpose, this system will be evaluated based on user requirements
and MY SQL evaluation performance.

The duration of implementing of this project is between (Mar-Jul, 2023)

1.6 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

This proposed system is significant for event venues and wedding planners in
our country as it can streamline the booking and reservation management process,

5
allowing for efficient management of event schedules and resources, enabling event
venues and planners to tailor their services and offerings to meet the evolving needs
of their clients.

This project can have these important such as: -

a. Improved Efficiency.

b. Increased Revenue.

c. Better Resource Allocation.

d. Competitive Advantage.

1.7 Report organization
