Learning Area: EARTH AND LIFE SCIENCE Date : December 13, 2023

Grade Level: GRADE 11 Grading Period: FIRST SEMESTER

School: SAN MATEO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Date:
I. OBJECTIVES
A. CONTENT The learners demonstrate an understanding of:
STANDARDS: 1. The different hazards caused by geological processes. (earthquakes,
volcanic eruptions, and landslides)

B. PERFORMANCE The learners shall be able to:

STANDARDS: 1. Conduct a survey to assess the possible geologic hazards that your
community may experience. (Note: Select this performance standard if
your school is in an area near fault lines, volcanoes, and steep slopes.)
C. MOST ESSENTIAL The learners should be able to:
LEARNING 1. Describe the various hazards that may happen in the event of
COMPETENCIES earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and landslides.
(MELC):
CODE S11/12ES -If-30
D. SPECIFIC Given the necessary materials, at least 80% of the students should be able to:
OBJECTIVES:
1. Describe and Explain the hazards associated with Earthquakes;
2. Identify and give examples of possible geologic hazards and;
3. Manifest awareness by conducting a survey to assess the possible
geologic hazards that your community may experience through a Hazard
Map.

IV. PROCEDURES
A. INTRODUCTION/ What I need to Know
RECALL/ This lesson intends to discover and understand how the planet Earth evolved in
PREPARATORY the last 4.6 billion years including the age of the Earth, major geologic time
ACTIVITY: subdivisions, and marker fossils.

Review first the following;

a. The Geologic Time Scale

Example:
b. Relative and Absolute Time

B. DEVELOPMENT/  The Learners will play a mini game called “The Letter”
ESTABLISHING A Directions: 1. There will be set of Questions as a review from our past lesson.
PURPOSE FOR THE 2. Answer the following questions and take note of the letter MISSING in the
LESSON: answer.
3. Form the following letters into a word.
4. Reveal the word formed to uncover the lesson for today

C. PRESENTING  After completing the question and formed the word, the Teacher will
EXAMPLES AND present an examples to the learners by giving a situation
DISCUSSING NEW
CONCEPTS: The Teacher will show a picture of a Landslide caused by heavy rains in a
residential subdivision in San Mateo Rizal that happened last August, 2017.

 Are you familiar with this place? Have you been here?
 What do you think happened in this place?
D. DEVELOPING  The Learners will describe the various hazards that may happen in the
MASTERY: event of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and landslides.
 The Teacher will describe and Explain the hazards associated with
Earthquakes and its possible geologic hazards.

 ART OF QUESTIONING
 What natural disaster had you experience and what is
the best thing that you did during that time?
 How can you identify a geologic hazard?
 What can be the possible cause of these natural events if
it happens on land?
E. ENGAGEMENT/ GROUP ACTIVITY:
PRACTICAL  The Learners will answer “ARRANGE ME”
APPLICATIONS OF
CONCEPTS AND Objectives:
SKILLS: 1. The Learners will Identify the different geological hazards shown in the
picture through jumbled letters.
2. Perform an activity called “Arrange Me!”
3. Show cooperation of Learners during the Learning session and;
4. Manifest awareness by giving practical ways of coping with geological
hazards caused by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and landslides.

Materials Needed: whiteboard, marker

Instructions:
1. The Learners will Identify what is shown in the picture by arranging the
jumbled letters.

1.

2.

3.

4.

F. ASSIMILATION/ Based on the activity, Give practical ways of coping with geological
GENERALIZATIONS: hazards caused by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and landslides.

 To sum up the lesson and for more information, The Teacher will show
a video to the class discussing about Geological Processes and Hazards.

Guide Questions :
1. What are the different types of Geological processes?
2. What do you call these threatening processes?
3. What would cause these natural events to happen on land?
4. What are the things that you should do when a geological hazard is
approaching?
5. What should you avoid to hazardous situations?

G. EVALUATION/  The Learners will answer questions based on the lesson.

ASSESSMENT:
Instructions: Read each item carefully. Choose the letter of the correct
answer.

1. What is the main reason why the Philippines have suffered from
numerous geologic processes calamities?
A. It’s economic status
B. It’s location (Pacific Ring of Fire)
C. Philippines is a Third World Country
D. Something to do with human population

2. Which of the following hazards undermine the foundations and

support of buildings, bridges, pipelines and roads, causing them to sink
into the ground, collapse or dissolve?
A. Eutrophication
B. Ground Shaking
C. Liquefaction
D. Pyroclastic Flow

3. A natural physical process becomes a natural hazard when the process

becomes _____________
A. scary
B. faster than usual
C. dormant and inactive
D. extreme and unpredictable

H. ENRICHMENT:  “Shakingly Yours”

Directions; Hazards may pose dangers to our lives. Let us be prepared
and protect ourselves. As students, how are you going to protect your
lives in times of hazards? Manifest awareness by conducting a survey to
assess the possible geologic hazards that your community may
experience through a Hazard Map.
