Grade Level Quarter/Domain Week & Day No. Page No.

10 First Quarter W-1/D2 1-3
I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the session, the students are expected to:
A. Explain concepts related to earthquakes.
B. How seismic risk is estimated based from its strength and size.
C. Compare seismic waves and interpret graphs relating to seismic waves.
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of the relationship among the locations of
volcanoes, earthquake epicenters, and mountain ranges.
B. Performance Standards The learner shall be able to ensure disaster preparedness during earthquakes,
tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.
C. Learning Explain the different processes that occur along plate boundaries.
Competencies/Objectives S10LT-Ia-j-36.3
II. CONTENT Processes and Landforms along Plate Boundaries

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous ELICIT (5 minutes)
lesson or presenting Activity1: 4 Pic 1 Word (in ppt)
the new lesson Present the images. Let them guess what the picture all about. All words are associated
with the previous lessons. The first student to guess the correct answer will get a
stamp.

(Answers: plates, crust, rocks, ocean, volcano,

mountain)

Follow – up Questions:
1. How many lithospheric or crustal plates our planet Earth have?
2. How do these plates classify?
3. What are the bases of dividing the lithospheric plates?
B. Establishing a ENGAGE (5 minutes)
purpose for the Video Clip: “Caught in the Ocean during the 2004 Tsunami”
lesson https://youtu.be/W-6ho3zX6fc
C. Presenting The teacher asks the following questions to connect previous lesson to present:
examples/instances 1. Can we predict this kind of natural phenomenon?
of the new lesson 2. As human, how do we mitigate its effects?
3. Does the knowledge about how Earth behaves help us understand this kind of
catastrophic event?
D. Discussing new EXPLORE (15 minutes)
concepts and Let the class explore the 3D simulation. From the simulation given, let them create
practicing new skills their own central idea. Let them define that idea and share them in the class. Ask also
#1 to give their personal experiences about it. [Verbal mode]
E. Discussing new Using the second video clip, let them create their schematic diagram from they learn
concepts and from the video. Then, let some volunteer’s share their works in the class.
practicing new skills -Assist the class how in doing the activity.
#2
F. Developing mastery EXPLAIN (18 minutes)
(leads to Formative Explain the topic using the following guide questions:
Assessment 3) 1. What are the features of an earthquake?
2. Where do earthquakes commonly occur?
3. How does earthquake measured in terms of magnitude and intensity?
4. How does earthquake epicenter located using seismic wave graphs?
5. What is correlation of earthquakes to the plate tectonics?
G. Finding practical
applications of
concepts and skills in
daily living
H. Making
generalizations and
abstractions about
the lesson

ELABORATE (10 minutes)

Reflective Questions:
1. How can the graphic organizer help you to understand the occurrence of
earthquakes in the Philippines and the other countries along the Pacific Ring of
Fire?
2. Why is it important to increase the level of awareness and preparedness of
Filipinos toward natural calamities such as Earthquakes?
I. Evaluating learning EVALUATE (5 minutes)
Who wants to be a Millionaire!
Instruction: The class will be divided into 2 groups (Group A & Group B). The members
who will be the first to type their names and group will be the one to answer the
questions. Every correct answer will garner specific points, group with the highest
score will be consider as the winner of the game.

Questions:
1. Which of the following is used to measure magnitude?
A. Richter scale
B. Mercalli scale
C. Shadow zone
D. Seismograph
2. Which of the following best describes earthquake intensity?
A. A measure of seismic risk
B. A measure of damage done
C. A measure of the earthquake’s focus
D. A measure of energy released
3. In which order will a seismogram record seismic waves?
A. S-wave, P-wave, Surface wave
B. P-wave, S-wave, Surface wave
C. Surface wave, P-waves, S-wave
D. P-wave, Surface wave, S-wave
4. This is the point on earth’s surface where the energy of an earthquake is felt
the most.
A. Eye
B. Fault
C. Focus
D. Epicenter
5. What is an earthquake?
A. When the earth causes an upward thrust in the epicenter.
B. When tectonic plates move against each other causing the earth to move.
C. When the earth moves up and down along the ocean floor.
D. None of the above

J. Additional activities EXTEND (2 minutes)

for applications or Reflective Writing:
remediation The Philippines experiences earthquakes because of its geographical location. The
different intensities and magnitudes of the earthquakes determine its effects to the
society and the community. Several reports were seen in the television and other
information platforms about the effects of earthquakes. As a student and a member of
the community, what are your social responsibilities in times of a natural calamity such
as earthquakes? Write your reflection in your journal notebook.
V. REMARKS
VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the evaluation.
B. No. of learners who require additional activities for remediation.
C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of learners who have caught up with the lesson.
D. No. of learners who continue to require remediation.
E. Which of my teaching strategies worked well? Why did this work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter which my principal or supervisor can help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized materials did I use/discover which I wish to share with other teachers?
