#FactCheckingInAnEraOfFakeNews

Social media is a time pass platform for most people, especially the younger generation. Due to
technological advancement and easy access to information, it is also easy to distribute false information,
which can impact a person or society as a whole. As a result, fact-checking is essential to determine
whether what we are about to share is true or not.

Fake news and disinformation usually have a detrimental impact on social media. It can lead us
to hatred against religion, politics, celebrities, or agencies which is not beneficial for the society. One
piece of fake news can influence the entire impact of a story, as well as an individual's opinion. Fake
news is generally spread by media firms because they are accountable for releasing incorrect
information that might bring them a lot of money.

With the last election, the term "fact-checking" was frequently used, and I believe that as a
student, doing so is critical. Fact-checking is essential because disinformation can change your
perspective, which can have a significant impact on your actions. If you base your actions on false
information, you are more likely to make bad decisions, which can have unforeseen repercussions. To
distribute accurate information, we must conduct extensive study. Doing our own research, especially
on topics that perplex us, is vital so that when we share our thoughts to other people, we may provide
something relevant and answer them with sufficient proof and evidence. People will be more conscious
of what is true and will benefit as a result.

We must not believe everything that people say. The best way for us to counter fake news is to
do our own research. This allows us to have a better grasp of a particular subject and avoid spreading
false information to others.
