APPARATUS AND MATERIALS: plumb, clamp, retort stand, timer, meter ruler, string, and cork
DIAGRAM:
METHOD:
3. Two persons was assigned to the lab, one with a meter ruler and one with a timer
4. The person with the timer will record how long it takes to reach 20 oscillations twice in every 10
centimeters (about 3.94 in)
5. Last person with meter ruler will measure 30 centimeters (about 11.81 in) to 80 centimeters
(about 2.62 ft) twice after 20 oscillation is made for each 10 centimeters (about 3.94 in)
RESULTS:
SIMPLE CALCULATIONS:
DISCUSSION:
The reason the lab gave these results is because of three main things which is 1) gravity, 2) simple
pendulum and last the oscillation. Gravity is the force which a body draws object towards its center
which explains why the ball went back to the center of the retort stand after moving 20 oscillations.
Simple pendulum is the system that moves in an oscillation motion which is back to front 20 times after
3 oscillations. The longer the string the long it takes to 20 oscillation and the shorter the string the faster
20 oscillations occurs.
PRECAUTIONS:
Ensure that the loose end of the string does not obstruct the movement of the pendulum
Make sure it is a small angle or ball will be to fast hence air resistance is negligible
SOURCE OF ERROR
Angling of the ball or over angling can ruin the entire lab
Sometimes the timing can be wrong or timed wrong
REFLECTION:
In this lab I've learnt that the longer the strong the long it takes to reach 20 oscillations and that it is
proven difficult to do this specific lab in closed areas since it can cause errors to the lab like wind hitting
the retort stand which can cause the results to differ or change.
CONCLUSION:
