Detailed Lesson Plan in Science IV

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:
a. Define a magnet
b. State that a magnet has two poles
c. To understand magnetic force

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

 Magnetic Force
MATERIALS:
 Visual aids
 Pictures

III. PROCEDURES:
Teacher’s Interaction Activities Pupil’s Interaction Activities
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Greetings
Good morning class Good morning Ma’am
How are you? We are fine Ma’am
Okay that was good

2. Checking of attendance
Now I’m going to checking your Yes Ma’am
attendance, please raise your right hand
when I call your name and say present.

3. Review
-Before we start on our next lesson, who Our last topic is all about force.
can remember our last topic? Anyone?
-Very good! And what have you learned I’ve learned that we need energy and
about force? strength to move things.
-Very good!

B. Motivation (Showing a picture)

-I’ll show you a picture and I want you to I see child putting magnet on the ref.
describe what you see in the picture.
-Okay very good!

-Now do you have any idea what our next About magnet
lesson all about?
-Very good!
-Now let proceed to our next lesson. Our
lesson for today is all about Magnetic
Force. So what is magnetic force?
Anyone? When we say magnetic force or
magnet is a bar of iron that attracts and
holds materials made up of iron and steel.
The word magnet came from magnesia, a
place in a Greece, where it was
discovered. Objects like nails, needles,
pins, and clips are attracted by a magnet.
Things that are attracted by magnets are
called magnetic materials.

Nails Needle

Pins Clips

-All magnets have two ends, the north-pointing

pole and south-pointing pole. The North Pole is a
positive pole and the South Pole negative pole.

-Magnetism follows the same rules applied to

batteries or any electric charges .Like poles repel
each other while unlike poles attract each other .
When two like poles of a magnet face each
other , they repel or push each other . Whereas,
two unlike poles of the magnet attract each other.
The force exerted by a magnet is called magnetic
force. The magnetic field in the space around the
magnet exerts force even when when the magnet
is not in contract with any object . Notice that the
magnetic lines of force are concentrated in the
poles, thereby making magnetization the
strongest in these parts.

-Magnetism is the property exhibited by any

magnetic material. Paarticles of matter , like
iron , steel, nickel, or cobalt , are assumed also to
have north and south poles. For instance, when
you bring a magnet close to a set of randomly
arranged paper clips , the clips will align
themselves straight , with their north poles
attaching to the opposite pole or vice versa. A
Danish scientist named Hans Oested found out
that when electricity was made to flow through a
wire close to a compass needle swing in the north
–south direction. This discovery attracted his
interest to do more experiment about electricity
and magnets. He concluded that electricity can
produce magnets, and magnets can produce
electricity. He was able to produce
electromagnets, or magnets that were made using
the flow of electric currents.

C. Generalization
- Do you understand our lesson?

Again what is magnetic force? Yes Ma’am

Magnetic force is a bar of iron that attracts

and holds materials made up of iron and
What are the two ends of the magnets? steel

Very good class! We have north-pointing pole and south-

pointing pole.
ACTIVITY (Find the object)

-The teacher will group the pupils into two

groups. The teacher will let the pupils to identify
the object if it is attract or repel.

Materials Needed:
Pictures
Procedure:
1) Find the object
2) Put the picture on the right place
3) Identify if it is attract or repel

Questions:
1) What have you observed from the
activity?
2) What have you learned from it?
3) What is the importance of magnetic
force?

D. EVALUATION

Directions: Write ̸ if the object in the box are

magnets and × if its not magnetic.

E. Assignment
-Draw a magnetic force.
