Method statement for Canopy Gutter Truss, Fascia and Purlins erection

Purpose and scope

 To erect the Pre-fabricated canopy Gutter Truss, Fascia and Purlins structure to column
with the help of crane at workstations following all Health, safety and environment
standards and as per client requirement.
Method of work
 Install gutter truss from centre of the one column to other so that gutter truss are properly
fixed with the help of Crane and bolted with M16 and nut tightened with the help of
Scaffolding.
 Cantilevers gutter truss are also installed with the help of Crane and bolted with M16 and
nut tightened with the help of Scaffolding.
 Fascia is installed with the help of crane and fixed with M12 bolts and nuts with the help
of scaffolding and tightened the bolts.
 Purlins are installed with the help of crane and fixed with M10 bolts and nuts with the
help of scaffolding and tightened the bolts.
Risk assessment
 Improper material handling may cause serious injury.
 Slip, trip and fall of hand tool or roof truss may cause serious injury.
 Collision with vehicles like crane.
 Scaffolding collapsing.
Control Measure
 Provide appropriate tools for material handling.
 Training for proper material handling, loading and unloading.
 Provide proper supervision near job location.
 Training to workman on adverse effects of lifting excessive weight.
 Shall provide appropriate PPEs for all (dust mask, shoes, and helmet).
 The provision, condition and use of hand tools shall be inclusive in the HSE Inspection /
Audit Program.
 Approved and certified scaffold should be erected and labelled properly.
 Scaffold should always have guard rails for support while working
 Users shall be required to inspect hand tools before use.
 Line supervisors and HSE’s shall monitor the provision, condition and use of hand tools.
 The hazards associated with hand tool usage and condition shall be covered in toolbox
talks.
 Obtain authorization from the client of the proper location for storage of materials.

 Maintain the storage area clean and tidy.

 Ensure that protruding and sharp edges are covered and protected.
 Area must be fully barricaded with signs preventing any unauthorized entry.
 Ensure access is provided and clear from any obstruction for operatives to pass and walk
through.
 Materials must be arranged and secured properly.
 Do not keep hands/fingers in trap points; use the correct tools and equipment for the task;
follow the correct procedure for handling the materials.
 Plan the route of materials to the area.
 Ensure barriers and signs are in place before the start of the activity.
 Maintain a safe distance with the existing facilities.
 Never attempt to lift or load materials greater than its specified SWL.
 Ensure that all materials to be loaded and unloaded must be securely stacked and properly
band before lifting.
 Ensure that load must not be left suspended and never allow anyone to stand or walk
under the load being lifted.
 Ensure that operatives were trained to move their feet instead of twisting their bodies.
 Gin wheel, rope and lifting bag with SWL will be used by only trained personnel for
manual lifting activity; throwing of tools and materials up or down is not permitted. Hand
ball will be used. All materials must be secured properly.
 Ensure that the workplace is cordoned off with safety signs in place.
 Ensure that personnel have adequate access/egress for any situation and temporary ladder
must be available at all times and ensure that the ladder is properly footed and tied at the
bottom & top. (Ensure that access is free of any obstruction).
 Ensure that materials to be used must be thoroughly checked prior to installations no oil
and grease content. (Any defective materials must be removed and those tubes that
were stuffed with materials must be segregated or inserted materials must be removed).
 Safety harness should be worn and must be clipped on 100% tie off to proper anchorage
point for hazardous operations or where there’s a danger of falling.
 Sufficient lighting must be provided by the client.
 All materials, equipment and tools must be kept properly to ensure access is clear from
any obstruction.
