Objectives:

At the end of the session, the students are expected to:

a. review what is a Critique Paper.


b. analyze the structure of a Critique Paper.
c. identify the Introduction, Body Paragraphs and Conclusion of
the example essay.

SUBJECT MATTER:
WRITING A CRITIQUE PAPER- Day 6
Reference: Grade 10 Module for Third Grading, English Time Quarter 3, Youtube Video
of Farah Acero in Writing a Critique Paper
Materials: Printed Visual Aids

LESSON PROPER:

Preparatory Activities:
● Class greeting
● Checking of attendance
● Arranging their seats and picking up their trash.

1. Motivation:
❖ Let’s do a Tongue Twister!

➢ Teacher first
➢ Followed by individual students
➢ Then, small group (their own group)
➢ Big group (all boys, all girls)
➢ Lastly, the whole class

2. Review:

How do we critique a work?


➢ Description: describing what is seen in the work.
➢ Analysis: analyzing the relationship of the elements.
➢ Interpretation: state your personal interpretation based on background
experience and knowledge.
➢ Evaluation: Summarize what the work is all about.

STRUCTURE OF A CRITIQUE PAPER


● Introduction
○ Defines key terminology as needed.
○ Provides a quick snapshot of background information.
○ Contains the summary where the broad overview of what is discussed in
the source. Should involve WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY, and
HOW.
○ Gives a strong thesis statement.

● Body Paragraph/s
○ Presents the main critique.
○ Analyze the aspect of the text (style, organization, fairness/bias, etc.)
○ Discuss the strength and weakness of the work.
○ Evaluation of the resource where the writer’s opinion is listed and
supported with evidence.

● Conclusion
○ Draw the paper to a close
○ Provides the final judgment on the value of the work being critiqued at.
○ Summarize your main point and restate the thesis.

Remind the students about the proper way of writing an essay.
