(February 5-8 Week 6)
Topic: Comparing and Ordering Unit Fractions
Content Standard:
The learners demonstrate understanding of ……
 Understand the comparing and arranging unit fractions.
Performance Standard:
The learners should be able to……
 Read and write unit fractions based on realia and illustrations with denominators of 10 and below.
Learning Competencies:
The learners should be able to……
 Identify other fractions less than one with denominators of 10 and below.
Learning Targets:
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to…
 Compare unit fractions using relation symbols.
 Arrange unit fractions in increasing or decreasing order.
 Appreciate the importance of fractions we use every day.
Transfer Goals: Students on their own and in the long run will be able to:
 Use the fractions every day in the things they use and the activities they do. Fractions are everywhere. The
fractions in food, like when they are making smaller parts of a whole cake. They also see fractions in the
hours in a day when they are plan their daily activities.
STAGES ACTIVITIES
MOTIVATION
 Get a 2whole sheet of paper.
EXPLORE  Fold the paper into 2 and 4 equal parts.
 Label each fractional part.
 Which is larger ½ or ¼?
(Day 1-2)
 Discuss the comparing Unit Fraction.
FIRM-UP  Give an example the comparing unit fraction.
 Ask a volunteer to answer the given fraction.
 Discuss the ordering unit fraction.
 Give an example the ordering fraction.
 Ask a volunteer to answer the given fraction.
 Ask the learners a question.
 What do they notice with the set of unit fractions when arranged from
the smallest to largest?
 How about when arranged from the largest to smallest?
 Discuss the other fractions less than one with denominators of 10 and below.
 Give an example of the other fractions.
(Day 3)
Activity 1
A. Use the squares below to draw the given unit fractions. Then compare by writing >
(greater than), < (less than), or = (equal to) on the circle.

DEEPEN

½ ¼ ¼ 1/3
1/5 1/6 1/8 1/4

B. Arrange the given fractions:

1. in increasing order or from smallest to largest
1/5 ¼ ½ 1/3 1/6 _______________________

2. in decreasing order or from the largest to smallest

1/8 1/6 1/5 1/3 1/9 ______________________

(Day 4)
Activity 2
Answer the questions that follow.

With your group mates, show that these pairs of fractions are equal by folding sheets
of paper and coloring the correct number of parts.

1. ½ and 2/4 2. 1/3 and 2/6

3. ½ and 4/8 4. 1/3 and 3/9

Performance Task
GRASP
 Bring 10 plastic bottles. Fill in the correct bottle using water based on the
TRANSFER given color. You may use the funnel to transfer the water easily. Then, use the
dropper for the food coloring and mix it with the water. Arrange the bottles in
decreasing order.
