YOU WILL NEED
These materials are necessary:
- any smooth or velour yarn. To make the two-color bull terrier I
used Vita Brilliant Yarn (45% wool, 55% acrylic; 380 m/100 g) of the following
colors: baked milk (5108) (MC) - 50 g; white (4951) (CC) - 25 g. 1.5 mm
crochet hook. To make nose I used leftovers of black color yarn.
- to make the gray bull terrier I used Alize Angora Real 40 (40% wool,
60% acrylic; 480 m/100 g) - ivory (599) - 50 g. 1.25 crochet hook.
- to make eye whites you will need embroidery thread or Iris yarn.
You can use any cotton yarn or just a piece of white felt. I used Vita Pelican
yarn (100% mercerized cotton, 330 m/50 g). You will need just leftovers of
these yarns.

TIP: If you need exactly the same yarn you can ask via private message in
this shop on Etsy
https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/LittleOwlsHutRUSSIAN

- embroidery thread of black color to embroider the mouth

- cotton yarn to match MC to embroider the smile
- 1.5 mm cooper wire - approx. - 0.5 m. You can buy this wire in a
craft s hop, but I suggest buying it in an electronic goods store. There you can
buy a 3*1.5 cord. Before buying the cord, make sure that the wire inside it is
whole and does not consist of several thin wires. With a paper knife, remove
the insulation.
- stuffing polyester
- white fabric plaster or insulation tape
- toy eyes or beads or semi beads to make eyes. You will need 2
items. The size of the beads is 8-10 mm (or bigger or smaller depending on
your toy).

Optional materials:
- 2.5*28 mm cotter-pin - 1 item, M3 washer - 2 items, 40-45 mm
plywood or cardboard disk - 2 items (pay attention that the size of the disk
depends on the inner diameter of the neck). You can sew the head on the
body. In this case, you don’t need cotter pins, washer or disks.
- transparent glue (if you want to glue the eyes on instead of sewing
them on)
- dry pastel colors to tint of the following colors: dark-brown and
pink. For the grey dog, you will also need dark-gray pastel color to tint
between folds.
- thin (0.5-0.7 mm) black permanent marker or ballpoint pen
- decorative collar or bow

TOOLS:
- 1.25 or 1.5 mm crochet hook (the size of the hook depends on the yarn you use). 1 mm crochet
hook to make the eye whites
- pins
- wire cutter
- round pliers to twist cotter-pins
- hard synthetic paintbrush to tint the toy. (I used a flat
brush # 5)
- wide brush to tint the cheeks

tog - together
shift st - shift stitch – an additional sc in next st and only after that change the position of the marker
ss – slip stitch
FO – fasten off and weave in the end
sc – single crochet
incr – increase: 2 tr in one st
st(s) – stitch (es)

How to choose a washer to join the head.
To choose a washer of the correct size, it is necessary to make the neck first. Work in continuous
spiral. Do not shift the marker. (For the two-color dog, the neck is made with white yarn only.)
1) make a MR, 6 sc into the ring (6)
2) 2 tr in each st around (12)
3) (sc, 2 tr in next st) * 6 (18)
4) (sc, 2 tr in next st, sc) * 6 (24)
5) (3 sc, 2 tr in next st) * 6 (30)
6) (2 tr, 2 tr in next st, 2 tr) * 6 (36)
7) (5 sc, 2 tr in next st) * 6 (42)
8) (6 sc, 2 tr in next st) * 6 (48)
9) (7 sc, 2 tr in next st) * 6 (54)
10-20) sc in each st around (60)
Fasten off. Sew 13 and 19 Rnd together like a foto below
The washer must fit into the neck. In my cases, for the gray dog, I used a 40-mm washer and for
the two-color dog I used a 45-mm washer.

43) sc in each st around (84)

Make a wire frame for the legs. It makes the toy more stable. Wire frame also helps if it is
difficult to attach the legs in a perfect position - you can just bend the legs a bit and the toy will stand
firmly. Place additional marker between Rnds 16 and 18 where the central marker goes. Count 33 sts
down to the right and to the left from the additional marker. Place additional markers. Cut 35-40 cm of
wire. Make an oval at one of the ends (the length of the oval is equal to the length of the back leg or a
bit shorter). Make sure that the sharp end of the wire is inside the oval (it should look like a paper clip).
Wrap the oval with plaster. Insert the frame into the place where the back leg is attached to the body.
Repeat for the second leg.

7
43) (19 ss, 2 lot) * 4 (80)
44) (9 ss, 2 lot, 9 ss) * 4 (76). Align the marker to make it go straight.
45) (19 ss, 2 lot) * 4 (80)
Place additional marker between Rnds 43 and 45 where the central marker goes. Count 33 sts
down to the right and to the left from the additional marker. Place additional markers. Twist wires of
the back legs together (make sure the body is not deformed) and take the other ends outside the body
through the marked places for the front legs. Make small loops at each end and wrap them with plaster.

8
46) (8 sc, 2 lot, 8 sc)*4 (68)
Sew together 45-46 Rnds
47) (15 sc, 2 lot) * 4 (64)
48) (7 sc, 2 lot, 7 sc) * 4 (60)
49) (13 sc, 2 lot) * 4 (56)
50) (6 sc, 2 lot, 6 sc) * 4 (52)
Align the marker to make it go straight. In order to attach the head later, place an additional
marker at the end of Rnd 54 - it marks the place where the cotter pin will go out. Stuff the body with
polyester. If you want, you can add some granules into the bottom.
51) (11 sc, 2 lot) * 4 (48)
52) (3 sc, 2 lot, 3 sc) * 6 (42)
Choose a disc of the matching size (see instructions above on page 4). Then take a 2.5*28 mm
cotter pin, put a M3 washer onto the pin, then the disc. Insert the cotter pin with the washer and the
disc inside the body so that the head of the pin looks inside the body and the end goes out through the
neck through the marked st.

9
View from below Side view
Continue working. Stuff with polyester while crocheting. You can fix the end of the cotter pin
with plaster to prevent it from falling inside the body.
53) (2 tr, 2 lot, 2 tr) * 7 (35)
54) (3 sc, 2 lot) * 7 (28)
55) (sc, 2 lot, sc) * 7 (21)
56) (sc, 2 lot) * 7 (14). Stuff with polyester till the end.
57) (2 lot) * 7 (7). Fasten off.
The body should look like this. It is time to attach the head. If the hole is too small, you can make
it bigger with a tapestry needle. Put the washer onto the cotter pin.

10
Twist the ends of the cotter pin. Try the tail onto the body. Stuff the tail with polyester and sew
it on.
Put the legs onto the wire frame. Stuff the legs with polyester. Fix the legs with pins to make the
toy stand firmly on the four legs. Sew the legs on.

HEAD
Work in continuous spiral. Main instruction - for a one-color dog.
The marker goes along the central line of the muzzle from the nose to the forehead and back of
the head. Align the position of the marker when necessary. Do not remove the marker before sculpting.

Ears
Work in continuous spiral. Main instruction - for a one-color dog.
The marker goes along the ridge. Do not shift the marker.
1) make a MR, 6 sc into the ring (6)
2) (sc, 2 tr in next st) * 3 (9)
3) (sc, 2 tr in next st, sc) * 3 (12)
4) 2 tr in next st, 4 sc, (2 tr in next st) * 2, 4 sc, 2 tr in next st (16)

6) 2 tr in next st, 8 sc, (2 tr in next st) * 2, 8 sc, 2 tr in next st (24)
7) 2 tr in next st, 10 sc, (2 tr in next st) * 2, 10 sc, 2 tr in next st (28)
8) 2 tr in next st, 12 tr, (2 tr in next st) * 2, 12 tr, 2 tr in next st (32)
9) 2 tr in next st, 14 sc, (2 tr in next st) * 2, 14 sc, 2 tr in next st (36)

12
10) 2 tr in next st, 16 sc, (2 tr in next st) * 2, 16 sc, 2 tr in next st (40). Fasten off. Fold the ear in half
along the marker.

Place additional marker between Rnds 44 and 45 where the central marker goes. Count 19 sts
down to the right and to the left from the additional marker. Place additional marker between Rnds 46
and 47 where the central marker goes. Count 7 sts down to the right and to the left from the additional
marker. Additional markers mark edge points of the ears. With pins, fix the ears on the head, then sew
them on.

To make the muzzle more impressive, it is necessary to do sculpting. You can use embroidery
thread of the matching color or dental floss.
To make a smile, place an additional marker between Rnds 38 and 39 where the central
marker goes. Count 17 sts down to the right and to the left from the additional marker. Now you can
remove the additional marker in the center. Insert the needle into any point marked with an additional
marker, leaving a 10-cm tail. Take the needle out through the opposite point, skip 1 st up and insert the
needle into this point (the thread goes outside). Pull the both ends making small dimples. Tie the ends
together and weave in the ends.
To make eye sockets, place additional marker between Rnds 41 and 42 where the central
marker goes. Count 12 sts down to the right and to the left from the additional marker. Now you can
remove the additional marker in the center. Insert the needle into any point marked with an additional
marker, leaving a 10-cm tail. Take the needle out through the opposite point, skip 1 st down and insert
the needle into this point (the thread goes outside). Pull the both ends making small sockets. Tie the
ends together and weave in the ends.
View from above Side view

Stuff the head till the end. Do not close the hole yet.
Sew the head to the neck adding more polyester. Before sewing the head on, fix it with pins.

13
14
Finish up the eyes.
Cut eye whites out of a piece of felt or crochet them with any cotton yarn (Iris yarn / embroider
yarn / Vita Pelican) with 1 mm crochet hook. Make two. The position of the marker is not important. The
eye whites should be the same size or a little bigger than the eyes.
1) make a MR, 6 sc into the ring.
2) 2 tr in each st around (12)
3) (sc, 2 tr in next st) * 6 (18)
Attach the eye whites (sew them on or glue them on) at the eye sockets. Glue or sew on the
eyes and attach the eyelids.

Upper eyelid. Work in flat rows with MC yarn. Leave 5-cm tail at both ends. Ch 13, sc in 2nd ch
from the hook, sc in each ch till the end of the chain (12). Fasten off leaving a 5-cm tail.
Lower eyelid. Work in flat rows with MC yarn. Leave 5-cm tail at both ends. Ch 7.

Try the eyelids on the muzzle and sew them on.

15
Finish up the smile.
Thread black embroider yarn into a tapestry needle, make a knot. Insert the needle into the hole
at the back of the head and take it out at any dimple. With pins, fix the smile on the muzzle. At the end
pull the embroider yarn to make it go smoothly. Fix the yarn at the back of the head. Now you can close
the hole and weave in the ends.
You can see how to close the hole in this video:

16
Tinting
Tinting is a very important stage in making any toy. It makes the toy more expressive.
I use dry pastel, which I powder before using and a black ballpoint pen.

With a permanent marker, align the contour of the nose.

Tint the corners of the smile and circle around the eyelids closer to the inner contour. Do not
forget to tint the inner and outer corners of the eyes.

With hard brush, draw spots. You can use photos of real dogs as a guide to draw the spots - the
spots are often around one or both eyes. Make some spots on the neck.

17
Add a bit of pink color. Take a bit of pink color onto a wide brush. Make some touches on a
sheet of paper to get rid of excess color. It is important to make the tint very light. With pink color, tint
around the nose and to the nose bridge, in the ears and around the eye without a spot. Tint the cheeks a
little.

18
With dark-gray color, tint the area between folds on the muzzle and the body to make them
more visible. With dark-gray color, tint around the eye without the spot.

19
With a ballpoint pen, draw spots for whiskers. Put on a collar. The toy is ready!
