4.Procedures (indicate the steps you will undertake to teach the lesson and indicate the no. of minutes each
step will consume)

ACTIVITY:
4. 1 Engage Divide the class into 5 groups. Let the students arrange the following jumbled letters
to form a word then answer the following questions. Ask a representative from each
group to present their answers to the class.
10 minutes
TOCANNTS (Constant)
BALEVARI (Variable)
MERT (Term)
REXSEOPSIN (Expression)
Questions:
1. What are the different words formed?
2. In your own words, define each word?
3. What do you think is the connection among the words formed? Explain.

4.2 Explore
Present the word problem below to the class and ask the following questions.
10 minutes
Your mother asked you to buy few packs of soy sauce provided that the total cost
should not exceed the budget of 50 pesos. In what way can you determine how
many packs of soy sauce you can buy?

1. How do you solve the problem?

2. In what ways can you represent the possible number of soy sauce that you
can buy from the given amount or budget?
3. What mathematical sentence/s can we make out from the problem?
4. How do you call the letters or symbols that represent any number or value?
5. How do you call the numeral which has a specific value?

4.3 Explain
Identify the variables and constants in each expression, and answer the following
15 minutes questions.
a. 5 n2 +n+ 4 b. −7 x +12 c. π r 2

Questions:
1. What are constants?
2. What are variables?
3. How do you differentiate constants from variables?
4. Do all terms consist of variables and constants? Explain.

Variables are symbols or letters that may

4.4 Elaborate take one or more than one value.
10 minutes Constants are numbers that have fixed
values and is usually referred to as the term
without a variable.

A term is a number, a variable, a product or a quotient of constant and variables.

Terms are separated by the symbols “+” and “– “. An algebraic expression is a
mathematical expression that is made up of one or more terms. The number beside
the variable/s is the numerical coefficient while the variable/s including its exponent
is/are called the literal coefficient/s.

Differentiate constant and variable by completing the table below.

4.5 Evaluate Numerical Literal Variable/s Constant/s
Coefficient Coefficient
10 minutes
1. 5 x
2. 3m2 + 1
3. xyz +14
4. 6x -2
5. 15c - 12

Enhancement:
Create your own 5 examples of algebraic expressions and identify the constant,
__2__ minutes variable, numerical coefficient and literal coefficient for each example. Write it on
your assignment notebook.
5.Wrap-up/
Concluding Activity Let us ponder on the following quotation:
