the relevant channels that are culturally
appropriate and accessible for different groups.

on the principle that information and
communication are critical forms of aid,
without which people affected by a crisis
cannot access services or make well-
informed decisions for themselves and their
communities.
Communication is
Two-way
Two-way communication is a form of transmission in
which both parties involved transmit information.
Two-way communication has also been referred to as
interpersonal communication.

Ecosystem
• Identify and leverage existing communication channels
(e.g., newsletters, mass media, SMS).
• Consider factors influencing information consumption
(digital access, demographics) for tailored strategies.

Challenges in Ensuring Information Reliability:


• Difficulty in ensuring citizen knowledge despite increased
information accessibility, especially in conflict zones.
• Trusted media sources may be exploited for political
purposes, necessitating continuous adaptation and
vigilance.

Useful
- Internews focuses on practical information
that is relevant for the affected population
who is in the middle of the crisis. The
information should be:

Timely - the distribution of information


should be fast enough to be relevant to the
population, which is typically very difficult in
a humanitarian crisis where the situation
may be fluid.
Actionable: People should be able to
act upon the information that is
shared.

Trustworthy: It's not so much whether


people understand what you're saying;
what matters most is that they're
comfortable talking to you.

- are the information needs of all
groups being served?
•Information Landscape
- what infrastructure are in place to
support information production and
flow?
• Production and Movement of Information- This
refers to the creation, dissemination, and flow of
information within various contexts. It
encompasses how information is generated,
processed, and transmitted across different
channels.

• Dynamics of Access in Communicating


Communities- This concept focuses on how
individuals and groups access and interact with
information within their communities. It considers
factors such as availability, affordability, literacy,
and technological infrastructure.
• Use of information
-This refers to how the information is utilized
and applied within the community. The use of
information can vary depending on the
purpose and context of the communication.

• Impact of information
-This refers to the effects and outcomes that
result from the sharing and dissemination of
information within a community. It
encompasses the influence, changes, and
benefits that information can have on
individuals, groups, and the community as a
whole.
• Social trust – confidence in the
moral orientation or trustworthiness
of our fellow citizens.Also plays
an important role in how secure
individuals feel and how well society
functions.

• Influencers in the community- are


members of self-selected social
groups who have the trust and
respect of their peers to their
communities
