Recognizing Common and Proper Nouns in Sentences

At the end of a 60-minute class, the students are expected to:
1. recognize nouns in simple or group sentences
2. classify nouns in a short story
3. appreciate and write simple sentences using nouns.

We have Proper Nouns and Common


Nouns

Proper Nouns - deals with the specific


name of person, place, things, animals,
events and the like. It is always
introduced by a capital letter.

Common Nouns - refers to a general


name of a person, place, things,
animals, event and the like. It is usually
introduced by a small letter except if it
is used as the first word of a sentence.

For you to understand it carefully. the


park, dog, grass , book and the girl are
considered as common noun

For it to become a proper nouns let's


name a specific name of a;

park -Luneta Park


girl - Luna
book - Harry Potter
dog - Oreo
grass - Bermuda
bench - Patio Bench

As you can see, there is a big


difference between the two nouns.

Always remember , A noun refers to a


name, place, animal and things. It can
be a proper noun or a common noun.
Proper Noun is a specific name of a
noun while Common Noun is a
general name of a noun.
