Google Slides
Google Slides is an online tool for making presentations.
It’s available for free as part of your gmail account. In this
handout, you will learn how to access Google Slides and
create a simple presentation.

Step # 1
From the Google homepage, login to your university
email. If you need help doing so, please refer to the
Gmail handout.

Step #2
Once you are logged-in, you need to
click the icon with nine circular dots.
This will open a drop-down menu with
different Google applications.

Scroll down until you locate the Slides


icon which looks like a yellow sheet of
paper with a white rectangle at the
center.

Step #3
To create a new presentation, click
on the white box with the colorful
plus sign near the top of the
document. This will create a new
blank presentation.

Alternatively, on the right of the


blank presentation, there are
presentation templates. You can use
these templates if you want to
create a more lively or themed
presentation.

At the top left, you can rename your presentation, so it’s easier to
identify later. Click on the text that reads, “Untitled Presentation,” and
you can type in a new title.

Like Google Docs, Google Slides automatically saves. So, you don’t
need to worry about constantly saving your file to update your work.

Step #5
You can add text in
the same way.
Simply click on the
box you want to
type in, and it
should turn blue.
You can now type
within the box.

Step #6

To create new slides, go to the upper-left corner and click on the icon
that looks like a plus symbol. You can create as many new slides as
you want.

If you click the downward arrow instead, you will be shown different
slides that you can add to your presentation, instead.

Step #7

Next, you may want to further customize your presentation. You have
a variety of options, you can add text boxes, add images, edit box
outlines, or adjust the size and color of your text. To do so, you can
click any of the icons on the colored, horizontal bar near the top of the
page. The image indicates what each icon does.

Step #8
It’s finally time to
present to the class.
To make your
presentation
fullscreen, simply
click the slideshow
button at the top
right corner.

Please note that to


present with
Google Slides, you
need to have
internet access or
else your slides
will not load.

Step #9 (optional)
If you want to ensure
that your
presentation is
available offline, you
can download it to
your desktop or send
it to your instructor
through email.

First, click the file


button at the top left
corner of the page.
Next, scroll down to
the download option.
You can export your
presentation as a
.pdf, and it will save
to your computer.
You can also export
it as a .pptx which
will allow you to
open and edit the file
in PowerPoint
Presentation.

Congratulations, you can now make a Google Slides presentation!
