Daily Reminders

Review

Last meeting, we had our discussion about the properties of

gas particularly in different laws. So, again what it is all
about?

Motivation

Arrange the jumbled words into correct word.

Oxygen
1. NEGYXO
Zinc
2. CNIZ
Iron
3. NORI

Objective setting: The teacher will give the learning

objectives for the lesson.

Explore (20 minutes) Student’s Activity

Before we start the activity, please clear your area and be

aware of the rules in doing the activity.

 Follow instructions carefully

 Work collaboratively
 Work silently
 Respect each other’s idea
Students will be divided into 3 groups. Each groups will
choose a leader, secretary. Reporter and material manager.

3 groups will have different activities:

Group 1: Bubbles out
What you need:
1. baking soda
2. vinegar
3. clear glass/ empty bottle
4. spoon
What you have to do:
1. Get a clear glass or empty bottle
2. Pour vinegar into the glass or empty bottle. Add 2 to 3
spoons of baking soda.
3. Observe the reaction of vinegar with the baking soda.
Answer the following questions.
Key questions:
1. What happened when vinegar was added to the baking
soda?
2. What signs have you observed which signify a chemical
reaction?

Group 2
What you have to do:
1. Observe the picture and answer the following questions.

Key questions:
1. What can you say about the picture?
2. Why do you think that nails get rust?

Group 3
What you have to do:
1. Observe the picture and answer the following questions.

Key question:
1. What can you say about the picture?
2. Do you ever wonder how the digestions of foods takes
place?
Explain (10 minutes) Student’s Activity

Presentation of outputs. Students will present their data to

the class. After each presentation, the teacher will recognize
or mention the strength of each group and give them a
reward.
After presenting each group, the student will give an “Ang
galing clap”.

Very Good!

All of the activities are associated with our topic for today
which is the chemical reactions and its types.

Elaborate (5 minutes) Student’s Activity

What is Chemical Reaction?

Chemical reaction is a process in which one or more

substances are converted to one or more different
substances. In other words, chemical reaction is the process
where a material is transformed into a new one, possessing a
new composition.
Types of Chemical Reaction

1. Combination or Synthesis – a reaction when two or

elements combine to form a single product.

General equation: A + B → AB

Na + Cl → NaCl
A + B → AB

Example : Sodium + Chlorine gas → Sodium chloride

2. Decomposition – a single reactant breaks down into

simpler ones. It is the opposite of combination reaction.

General equation: AB → A + B

NaCl → Na + Cl
AB → A + B
Example: Sodium chloride → Sodium + Chlorine gas

3. Single Displacement (Replacement) – A substance; it can

be an element or a compound; capable of replacing one of
the atoms of a given compound.

General equation: AB + C → AC + B

AB + C → AC + B

Example: Potassium bromide + chlorine gas → Potassium

chloride + bromine gas
KBr + Cl2 → KCl + Br2

4. Double Displacement (Replacement) – a reaction in which

ions get exchanged between two reactants, resulting to the
formation of a new compound.

General equation: AB + CD → AD + CB

AB + CD → AD + CB

Example: Silver nitrate + Magnesium chloride → Silver

chloride + Magnesium nitrate

AgNO3(aq) + MgCl2(s)) → AgCl(s) + MgNO3(aq)

5. Combustion (Burning) Reaction – a reaction wherein

oxygen gas combines with a hydrocarbon; a compound
containing carbon and hydrogen atoms; forming carbon
dioxide and water as the products.

General equation: CnHn + O2 → CO2 + H2O

6. Acid-Base Reaction or Neutralization Reaction - special

kind of double displacement reaction that takes place when
an acid and a base react. In general, the products of this
reaction are salt and water.

General equation: Acid + Base → Salt + Water

Any questions about the different types of chemical

reaction? None ma’am
