I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of a 15-minute period the students will be able to:
Identify and describe the different types of chemical reactions;
Perform an experiment about chemical reactions;
Relate the types of chemical reaction in everyday lives.
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
(Class secretary report of class
attendance)
4. Checking of Assignment (students will submit their assignments)
5. Review of the past lesson
What was our topic last meeting? The previous lesson was all about the
Physical and Chemical Change.
6. Motivation
Teacher will show pictures and let the
student guess two pics one word.
What would you react if you are
angry?
What would you react if you are
happy?
Because even people will react
depending on what they feel, we have
different reactions based on what we
feel. Just like chemicals it also have
different reactions depending of what
they going through.

B. Lesson Proper
Decomposition Reaction
A single reactant breaks down to form NaCl → Na +Cl2
NaNO3 → Na + N2 + O2
two or more product.
General Formula
AB → A + B
Generalization
Ask the class about what they have
learned for the day.
Application
Perform an experiment about
Decomposition reaction
Elephant Toothpaste
Materials:
- Yeast
- Dish washing soap
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Warm water
- Plastic bottle
- Food coloring
What to do:
- Prepare yeast solution by adding dry The yeast contains an enzyme called
yeast to warm water and wait a few Catalase that breaks down hydrogen
minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Pour 2 inches of hydrogen peroxide peroxide (H2O2) into oxygen gas and water.
into the bottle. The oxygen gas gets trapped by the soap,
- Place bottle on baking sheet. and you get a large foamy solution that
- Squeeze in a good squirt of dish squirts out of the top of the bottle!
soap.
- Pour in yeast solution (3
tablespoons).
III. Evaluation
Instruction: Identify the types of chemical reactions.
1. Mg + AlCl → Al + MgCl2
2. C8H18 + O2 → H20 + CO2
3. MgCl → Mg + Cl2
4. Mg + O2 → MgO
5. AgNO3 + NaCl → AgCl + NaNO3
