INTERNSHIP DUTIES

RESEARCH: Research constitutes an important aspect of any internship whether it is a law

firm or a court internship. Hence one needs to be well acquainted with various legal research
tools, the prominent being SCCOnline, Manupatra, Lexis Nexis, Westlaw etc.

DRAFTING: Drafting skills require lots of hard work and patience. One needs to be well
versed with the various drafting specimens and formatting skills in order to undertake and
complete such assignments properly. Apart from these, assignments may include proof
reading of various legal documents, observance of court proceedings, making notes on
various legal issues etc. and other task depending on the nature of the internship.

ATTENDING CASE HEARINGS: Attending case hearings is an integral part of an

internship. It provides interns with a first-hand experience of the legal proceedings and helps
them understand the practical aspects of the legal profession. Moreover, attending case
hearings enables interns to support lawyers by assisting them in preparing case files, making
notes on various legal issues, and offering required assistance.

DAILY INTERNSHIP DUTIES:

1. Supporting the lawyers that come into the office and program. Sitting in on meetings,
briefings and appointments and offering required support.
2. Organizing list of dates, chronology and case synopsis.
3. Reading any suggested law related materials for my own benefit.
4. Interacting to various lawyers in our office.
5. Research on judgments that are related to facts of cases.

These were the works assigned to me on different days of the internship, to which are to be
reported to the senior.

These works were very useful in knowing the various aspects of any matter or cases involved
therein. The research has helped me to refine my way of doing the search for moot courts and
research papers.

Court proceedings observations helped me in understanding the court room etiquettes,

decorum inside a court room, gestures for the same and the type of language to be used
therein.
Drafting helped in enhancing the vocabulary and specific requirements to draft a legal notice
or any such kind of documents. Drafting helped in many ways in understanding the English
required for courts and wisdom of choosing words for each line of the document.
LEARNING OUTCOMES

During my internship, I developed a number of valuable skills. These included legal research
and analysis, legal writing and drafting, communication, time management, attention to
detail, and teamwork. These skills will be invaluable in my future career in the legal field.

Here are some examples of work assigned to me:

Nirmala Patel v. Ankit Chauhan:

This is a case of Motor Vehicles Act. Here the appellant is Nirmala Patel whose husband died
in an accident and the accused is Ankit Chauhan who was the reason for the accident. We
were fighting the case from the appellant's side. We demanded the compensation of 48 lakhs
argumenting that the appellant's husband was the sole earner of the family and there were
three dependants on him. The decision of the court was in our favour. The court calculated
the compensation which should be given to the appellant through various methods and
appellant was given compensation of 15 lakhs.

Govt v. Vijay Gajmore:

This was the case of section 420 of IPC and section 63 and 64 of the Copyright Act. We were
fighting from the defendant's side. The allegations were: the defendant Vijay Gajmore started
the fertilizer company and he was alleged that he manufactures artificial fertilizers and tried
to sale it in the market. Also, it was alleged that the company's name infringed the Copyright
Act. The decision was in our favour and the defendant was held not guilty.

Gramin Seva Sahakari Samiti Maryadit v State of Chhattisgarh:

This Petition made by the petitioner is not against any particular order but it is against the
inaction of the respondent authorities whereby the respondent authorities are not lifting the
paddy purchased by the petitioner society even after exceeding the buffer limits of the
society. And also because the action of the respondent authorities are completely against the
agreement executed between the parties.
API Ispat:

Petitioner is aggrieved by the order whereby the proposal of State Government

recommending prior approval for grant of mining lease to petitioner was rejected by Central
Govt. Immediately hereto is thereafter followed another order of State Government whereby
the application of petitioner seeking grant of mining lease itself was rejected by State
Government.

Sej Kumar Sahu:

This petition was that the required diploma certificate of lab technician had to be given of a
recognized institution ie. issued by state of M.P.., but it wasn’t.

I came to know how we apply legal principles in cases, how we interpret law to make our
case strong and how we defend ourselves in a court of law.

All the case laws which I did helped me to understand the basics of law and provided me with
the idea of development of law over a period of time. While, writing these drafts, I came to
know their format and the way we have to ask for the relief from the Court. I was given
feedback every Monday bu my senior.
CONCLUSION

In conclusion, my internship was an enriching and valuable experience. During my time at

the court, I had the opportunity to observe and learn about the legal system and its processes.
I was able to witness first-hand how cases are presented and argued, and how decisions are
made. This gave me a deeper understanding of the law and its application in real-life
situations.

In addition to observing court proceedings, I also had the chance to interact with legal
professionals, including judges, lawyers, and court staff. Through these interactions, I gained
practical knowledge and insights into the workings of the legal system. I also had the
opportunity to assist with research and drafting of legal documents, which further enhanced
my understanding of the law.

Overall, this internship has provided me with a solid foundation for my future career in the
legal field. I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to applying what I have
learned in my future endeavors.
