Provide a list of ten engineers who became the president or general manager of a large
company and write the details of their success.

1. Elon Musk - The founder and CEO of multiple companies such as SpaceX and
Tesla which are very big successful companies. When he founded Tesla in 2004,
Electric cars were not very well known at the time yet as of today they are quite
popular cars in America.
2. Diosdado Banatao - Also known as "Dado Banatao", is a Filipino entrepreneur
and engineer born on February 23, 1946 in the Philippines. His achievements
are somehow not well known but thanks to him technology would likely have not
flourished as he is only one of the early developers of semiconductors and
microchips for computers which can be found in all of your personal computers
nowadays.
3. Tony Tan Caktiong - An Filipino businessman who graduated with a degree in
Chemical Engineering from the University of Santo Tomas. He is the founder of
the famous fast food restaurant here in the Philippines, Jollibee, which started in
1975 and became a fast food empire up until the present and was then
introduced to other countries for global expansion.
4. Ramon S. Ang - This person is also currently a businessman who graduated with
a degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of the Philippines. He is
currently the President of the San Miguel Corporation which is famous for various
things such as beverages, foods and many more.
5. Lucio Tan - graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Far Eastern
University in the Philippines is a wealthy businessman who has various
contributions to the different sectors of industry of the country such as the
alcohol, airlines and tobacco industry.
6. David Consunji - graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University
of the Philippines and founder of DMCI, Inc.. His contributions are mostly focused
on the construction industry, real estate development industry and many more.
7. Francis Chua - graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering from the
University of the Philippines and president of the PCCI or Philippine Chamber of
Commerce and Industry which is a non-government organization that gives
opinions to the government to take actions on various issues. He also held other
companies that are on different types of industries.
8. Fernando Bayani - graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from
MAPUA and was into politics for quite some time but before going into politics, he
 was the founder of the BF Group of Companies which is a construction, steel and
manufacturing company.
9. Jaime Augusto Zobel de Alaya - graduated with a degree in Mechanical
Engineering from Harvard University and is the CEO of the Ayala Corporation
varying the companies’ financial assets and investments in other industries.
10. Henry Lim Bon Liong - graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from
the University of the Philippines and founder of SL Agritech Corporation which is
known for its hybrid rice research development and production.

Let's Analyze - Activity 1

1. Why are engineers considered the most significant segment of society?

Engineers are considered the most significant segment of society is because of the
creative and innovative creations that engineers have created in the past and what will
be created in the future. Engineers have the capabilities to make our lives much better
through different inventions.

2. What are the expected of engineers in general?

The expected of engineers in general are their technical skills and knowledge in
engineering which are their major forte which may vary because of the different fields of
career.

3. What is engineering management?

Engineering management pertains to the act of planning and managing a project to its
completion with its various factors like control of the financial/budget planning and
organization of the groups that are working on the project.

4. How may one define management?

From my understanding, management is the body of people that works on the planning,
organizing, managing the project unto its completion.

5. In what current concerns are engineering outputs needed?

In my opinion, engineering outputs in the present time are mostly needed in industries
such as healthcare industry - for coming up with new innovative equipments that may
help patients and doctors, food industry - for coming up with farming equipments and
various planting methods that may help the farmers harvest more crops, space
exploration industry - for making much more cost effective spaceships for space
explorations like in SpaceX, energy industry - for researching for other ways of creating
energy for the people to use like the new wave generator, hydrogenerators and wind
turbines.
