CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

This section describes the introduction of the research, statement of the problem,

significance of the study, and its scope and delimitation.

Background of the study

The No Inventory No Exam Policy (NINEP) is a new regulation implemented in Burauen

Comprehensive National High School (BCNHS). This policy aims to encourage students to be

responsible for their learning and to ensure that they are adequately prepared for their

examination. The results of the literature review showed that similar policies have been

implemented in various schools worldwide, with varying degrees of success.

Some studies reported positive outcomes, such as improved student responsibility and

exam performance, while others found mixed results or challenges in implementation. The

review highlighted the importance of clear communication, consistent enforcement, and

ongoing support for both students and teachers in the successful implementation of such

policies. The implementation of NINEP in BCNHS is a promising initiative to improve student

responsibility and exam performance. However, it is essential to consider the lessons learned

from previous studies and research on similar policies to ensure effective implementation.

Data from the grade 11 HUMSS students in the class of 2023–2024, the "No Inventory,

No Exam Policy" has a positive impact on students' academic performance by encouraging

them to be more responsible. Thus, it can have a negative impact on students' academic

performance by adding burdens; for an instance , students may find it hard to complete the
paperwork that needs to be signed by the teacher, or they may not be able to complete it due

to financial difficulties. As a result, they might experience stress and depression, which could

ultimately lead to subpar academic performance.

It is undeniable for the Grade 11 HUMSS students in Burauen Comprehensive National

High School to face difficulties and challenges due to pressure in order to meet the teachers

expectations. Students are obliged to stay outside because of their negligence. One of the most

frustrating aspects for teachers are being late, causing the learners to wait for hours, whereas it

was the students' fault for not being able to complete the slip on the assigned date. However,

some might find it hard to accept that they were denied and not given a chance to take the

test. If a student is unable to take their examination test, they may receive poor grades or fail

the course. This can have a negative impact on their academic progress and future

opportunities.

The inability to take an examination test can cause significant stress and anxiety for

students. This can lead to physical symptoms such as headaches, stomach aches, and difficulty

sleeping. In some cases, students may have to retake the course or pay fees for rescheduling

the examination test. This can result in financial difficulties for students who are already

struggling to pay for their education.

If a student is unable to take their examination test on the scheduled date, they may need

to reschedule other commitments such as work or personal appointments. This can lead to

time management issues and additional stress. If a student is unable to take their examination

test due to unforeseen circumstances, they may not have had enough time to prepare properly.

This can result in lower scores and a sense of disappointment.

The "No Inventory No Exam Policy influenced the teaching and learning practices as it

helps students to be consistent and responsible. This influenced the students to be responsible

in completing all the requirements needed in able to take the examination.

The "No Inventory No Exam Policy" is considered as a process that needs to be completed

before the examination day. It encourages the students to comply the needed requirements

that enable them to be well-desciplined and resilient.

Statement of the problem

The purpose of this research study is to describe the personal experiences of Grade 11

HUMSS Students about the Implementation No Inventory No Exam Policy in Burauen

Comprehensive National High School.

1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of the following:

1.1 Gender:

1.2 Economic Status:

2. What are the challenges do grade 11 HUMSS students experienced in the No

Inventory No Exam policy implementation in Burauen Comprehensive National High

School?

3. How do they cop-up their challenges?

Significance of the study

It is hoped that the results of this study will be useful to the following:

To the students. This policy help students develop better study habits and time

management skills as they prepare for exams without relying on outside materials. It can

improve the overall quality of education by ensuring that grades are based on actual knowledge

and understanding rather than memorization or cheating. It provides an understanding of the

impact of the policy on student learning and performance. By implementing this policy it

provide the students with an understanding of the impact and effectiveness of this policy. The

study could help students appreciate the benefits of this policy, such as reducing stress and

anxiety among students, improving their overall academic performance, and promoting a more

positive learning environment. Additionally, the study could highlight any challenges or

limitations associated with the policy and suggest potential solutions to address these issues.

To the teachers. It aims to assess the effectiveness of this policy in improving the learning

experience and academic performance of students. By understanding the impact of this policy,

teachers can make informed decisions about their teaching strategies and support for students.

The findings of the study may provide valuable insights for other schools considering

implementing similar policies.

To the future researchers. The study can help inform future policy decisions related to

examination procedures and inventory management in schools. It can also raise awareness

about the importance of effective learning strategies and the role of examinations in assessing

student progress and achievement. This research can be included in their review of related

literature and studies. This can also help the future researchers to fill in any lapses of this study

for their future investigation.

Scope and Delimitation of the study

The study is concerned with the implementation of no inventory no exam policy in

Burauen Comprehensive National High School. The variables to be investigated are the

following: affection to the academic performance, challenges or issues, influenced the teaching

and learning practices, improvement in the examination process, and the benefits to the

students.

This study will be conducted in Burauen Comprehensive National High School Burauen,

Leyte. The target participants are the grade 11 HUMSS students (2023-2024).

Definition of Terms

No Inventory No Exam Policy. The phrase "no inventory, no exam" means that something

(usually a physical object) must be present or available for inspection before it can be evaluated

or examined (Merriam-Webster). In this study it is defined as a system where students are not

required to take traditional written or oral tests to demonstrate their knowledge or skills.
No Permit , No Entry. The phrase "no permit, no entry" means that access to a place or

event is restricted to those who have obtained the necessary authorization or permit (Merriam-

Webster). In this research it refers to a policy implemented in Burauen Comprehensive NHS

during exams to ensure the security and integrity of the examination process. This policy

requires all students to present a valid permit or authorization to enter the examination area.

Grade 11 HUMSS Students in Burauen Comprehensive National High school. Refers to a

specific group of students in Burauen, who are enrolled in the Humanities and Social Sciences

(HUMSS) strand of the Academic Track in Grade 11 (Thesaurus). In this study they are part of

the Comprehensive National High school program that offers a wide range of subjects and

activities to develop their knowledge, skills, and values.
