shapes.
Micro Competencies : Explain the properties of square and rectangle.
Steps :
1. Greeting : Good morning children…! As a part of a math trick, even today let’s see a puzzle.
2. Testing previous knowledge :
i. As far as the child is concerned, he / she is not aware of the term rectangle. But, he / she
can answer when you ask what you see in those shapes.
ii. He / She can give different examples when you ask to tell similar shapes by showing a
duster and match box.
iii. Today we are going to know about the qualities of ‘rectangles’.
3. Declaration of the topic : Make them draw faces of a soapbox as shown in pg.no.16. Ask
them, how many sides are there and how many corners are there? Based on this, on asking
them whether all the sides are equal ?, they say no. By this, we can define a rectangle. Thus
introduction of the concept is done.
By drawing the pictures like brick, matchbox, etc. on the classroom floor using a chalk piece,
create awareness.
You can even use rangolis to introduce the concept.
Key words: rectangle, sides, measurements.
