FOREWORD
Since it first launched in 2012, ASLC has attained
much success. Student leaders through Asia
converge in Singapore over a weekend to join
hands with their counterparts here to build
awareness and learn about core values of
commitment, leadership and volunteerism.
When students help children in need, they learn
first-hand how they can make an impact on the
world and help heal humanity.

The theme for ASLC 2023 is "Transforming Lives,

Restoring Hope". This theme emphasizes the
importance of transformational leadership in the
service sector by taking the initiative to
Transform the Lives of others too. Our objective is
to provide a platform for students to share their
experiences, exchange ideas, and work together
to address the pressing issues facing their
communities. Through this conference, we aim
to equip students with the skills and knowledge
to become effective leaders and altruists who
can thrive in the new normal and Restore Hope

CONFERENCE:
STUDENT SPEAKERS
EMBER/ACE: Nicole & Bernice
Nicole (left) and Bernice (right) are former students
of Anglo Chinese School (Independent), and have
been good friends since their secondary school days
at Methodist Girls’ School. Along with their friends,
Alexa, Charlotte and Ashley, they founded a
volunteer initiative known as Ember/ace in 2021. In
their free time, Nicole enjoys reading, watching
Korean dramas and dabbling in art, while Bernice
enjoys listening to music, watching films and going
on the occasional run.

Ember/ace’s mission is to improve the wellbeing of

the older generation by empowering the elderly and
promoting intergenerational bonding. This mission
was forged in recognition of the invaluable wisdom,
experiences and skills possessed by the elderly, along
with issues faced by them such as ageism, mental
health struggles and fading traditional culture. Thus,
Ember/ace provides a platform for the elderly to
share their unique life experiences, skills, and
knowledge with youths, while simultaneously
offering opportunities for youths to engage in
meaningful activities and companionship with the
elderly. This aids in fostering a sense of
empowerment among the elderly while bridging the
gap between generations.

At its core, Ember/ace is a passion project born out of

the desire to serve the community and the elderly
within it. As they progress into university, Nicole and
Bernice hope to continue to find opportunities to
empower and uplift society’s vulnerable groups.

THE RESONANCE PROJECT: IVAN

Ivan is a fresh junior college graduate and

an avid lover of all things music. Currently
serving in the Singapore army’s Officer
Cadet School as a cadet, Ivan now spends
most of his time interacting with his fellow
coursemates and playing music (on the
days that he’s at home). Besides music, he
enjoys taking pictures and is also largely
fascinated by his interactions with people
and their stories.

His love for music and people culminated in

the founding of The Resonance Project, a
student-run project that provides youth
from the ages of 13-19 with opportunities to
reach out to needy groups in society
through music, forming a community of
like-minded volunteers across the country.
With heavy emphasis on service and
