lOMoARcPSD|40592414

Acceptable answers are:

1. Defects usually encountered in welding procedures include incomplete

penetration, incomplete fusion, undercutting, porosity, and
longitudinal cracking.
2. The 5 essential procedures in welding are Correct electrode size, Correct
current, Correct arc length or voltage, Correct travel speed, and Correct
electrode angle.

3. Welders need protective gloves, goggles, helmets and respiratory

protection that will safeguard welders from injuries. Employees
should also be fully trained in hazards and equipment operation.
Equipment
needs to be thoroughly checked and maintained on a regular basis
to ensure they are safe for use.

4. A good weld is easy to distinguish. It will be straight and uniform

with no slag, cracking, or holes. There will be no breaks in the weld.
It shouldn't be too thin and there should be no dips or craters in the
bead.

5. Weld metal is always a liquid and wants to find its own level. Weaves
need to always be level, or the weld metal will sag

Acceptable Answers are:

1. The basic purpose of welding is to join two elements together with a firm connection.

2. Holding the milk in your mouth forces the welder to breathe through their nose. Again, this
process relies on the respiratory system with the welding fume being transported to the welder's
lungs?

3. The main objective of a WPS is to serve as a guide that allows the welder to perform welds that
are safe, repeatable and efficient.

4. Safety protocols in welding are the following;

a. Be sure the welder is properly installed and grounded.
b. Never weld without adequate ventilation.
c. Take proper precautions to prevent fires.
d. Protect your entire body with fire retardant clothing, shoes, and gloves.
e. Wear eye protection at all times.
f. Weld only in a fire safe area

5. Waste/unusable weld rods shall be disposed of in a red skip tub or other

container identified for scrap metal recycling. Waste solvent and solvent
soaked rags or tools must be disposed of properly in a hazardous waste drum.

III. ESSAY QUESTIONS: (ANSWER KEY)

[ 2 points each ]

1. What is welding in your own words?

 Welding is the process of joining two plastic or metal parts by
melting them, with or without using a further molten material. The
heat produced by an arc is used in welding to melt metal rods,
which solidify to provide a strong joint between two metal
surfaces.

2. What is the importance of safety at workplace?

 A safe and healthy workplace not only protects workers from
injury and illness, it can also lower injury/illness costs, reduce
absenteeism and turnover, increase productivity and quality, and
raise employee morale. Better safety equates to better health.

3. Important safety welding tips you should observe when we do a

welding job?
 Always Wear Safety Glasses, Gloves, and Apron. You can be
burned when operating the welding machine as the welding arc
is very hot, Be Aware of Fumes and Gases, Protect Yourself From
Electric Shock, Be Aware of Fires and Explosions, and Protect
Yourself From Noise Hazards.

4. What are the basic principle of arc welding?

 Arc welding is welding using the heat of an arc as a heat source.
In arc welding, positive voltage is applied to the electrode (welding
rod/wire) and negative voltage is applied to the base material. This
makes an arc occur from the base material to the electrode.

5. After finishing this activity modules, what have you learned? Did
you gain knowledge, skill and attitude at the end of the modules?
if you were to assess yourself, are your knowledge, skills, and
attitude and the delivery approach is on the level of
competency?
 ( Self-Assessment Key answer is himself )
