2. Drill
Class, I prepared here some illustrations.
As I flash each on the screen, I want you to
identify whether the following illustrations are
similar or opposite to one another. If the
illustrations are similar to one another, make a
letter S with your hands. But if they are
opposite to one another, make a letter O.
Is that clear, class? Yes.
Let’s start.
(The teacher will flash the illustrations on
the screen.) (The learners will identify if the following
illustrations are similar or not.)

(The learners will say and make a letter O.)

(The learners will say and make a letter O.)

illustrations which are similar and opposite to
one another. Give yourselves five (5) claps. (The learners will give themselves 5 claps.)

3. Review
Before we proceed to our new lesson, let us
check first if you still remember our past lesson
about various text types by answering the
following questions.
Number 1, what type of text is written to
describe an object, person, place, event, or
idea. Who knows the answer? Yes, Reine. It is descriptive text.
Very good.
Next, what type of text discusses problem
and solution? Yes, Chris. It is problem and solution texts.
Correct.
And lastly, what text type tells the steps on
how to do something? Please answer it, Vicco. It is procedural or sequence text.

4. Motivation
Take a look on this picture.

Teacher’s Activity Learners’ Activity
Please raise your hand if you have seen a
real airplane or if you have experienced riding
on it. (The learners who have seen a real airplane
or experienced boarding on a plane will raise
their hands.)
It seems that all of you/most of you have
seen a real airplane.
Now, I have a question. If you have given
a chance to board or ride on an airplane, where
do want to go? Yes, Rhyzen. (The student will tell the place he wants to
go.)
Why do you want to go there? (The student will tell his reason.)
How nice that place is.
I know that many of you want to travel
around the world. And, we are so lucky
because airplane is invented, that’s why
travelling in different countries became
possible.
Who do you think invented the airplane?
We will find it out in the selection we’re going
to read later.

2. What happened the first day they flew the
plane?
3. What Orville and Wilbur did to make the
first plane a successful one?

use your eyes only, and read the selection with
understanding, Okay? Yes.

4. Reading Period
Class, I will give you 2-3 minutes to read
the selection.
Do you understand? Yes.
You may now begin. (The learners will read the selection

Teacher’s Activity Learners’ Activity
(The teacher will monitor the learners as
they read silently.) The First Plane
The first plane was designed by Orville
and Wilbur Wright. The first day they
flew it, it didn't fly high. They knew that
the design was imperfect. The Wright
brothers were unhappy because they
failed so many times, but they didn’t give
up. Instead, they replaced their old
designs with a new one which led to a big
success. Finally, Orville and Wilbur
Wright made the first successful flight in
history.

Time is up. Is everyone done reading? Yes.

Did you understand the selection class? Yes.

Question number 4, if you were Orville or
Wilbur, will you also not give up no matter
how many times you’ve failed? Why? Will
you try to answer the question, Lawrence. If I were Orville or Wilbur, I will also not
give up because, if you do not give up, you will
succeed.
Very good.
And for the last question, what is the moral
lesson of the selection, Kyle? The moral lesson of the selection is to not
give up until you reach you goals.

break words into parts so that we can get the
meaning of words.
