B. Overview
The seaworthy packing procedure provides you information about packing procedure which
needs to withstand the conditions of maritime transport. The term seaworthy packaging procedure
is intended to indicate that the packaging must additionally strengthen and withstand the
conditions of maritime transport and then resist to more severe stresses.
C.1. Case and crated shall be made from new, sound and seasoned plywood/pinewood. Thickness
of sheathing (or outer plate) shall be in minimum of 9mm for both plywood/pinewood. Cases and
crates with gross weight up to 1,000 kgs shall be provided with bottom cleats of min. 40 mm
thicknesses to ensure clearance for handling by forklift. Cases and crates exceeding gross weight
of 1,000 kgs shall be provided with skid runners, number and size according to weight of package.
C.2. The contents of cases shall be protected by waterproof and strong plastic foil, which shall be
sealed at the top for rain protection.
C.3. Howden shall be packing the products as per the below table for sea worthy transport unless
there is a specific requirement requested by customer with additional cost.
All casing and static parts shall be packed with VCI and covered with Strech roll.
C.7. Shaft
All rotor shaft shall be packed with VCI and covered with stretch flim roll supported by stand.
C.8. Cone
All Cone shall be packed with VCI and covered with stretch flim roll.
C.14. Silencer
All silencer & other spares shall wrapped with VCI sheet and cover with stretch film.
C.15. Damper
All damper & other spares shall wrapped with VCI sheet and cover with stretch film.
C.20. Motor
Motor shall be packed with thermos sink wrapping.
C.23. Instruments
All instrument shall wrapped with VCI sheet and wooden in hardware box.
C.25. Coupling
Coupling shall be packed in wooden/hardware box.
C.26. Actuator
Actuator shall be packed in wooden/Hardware box.
C.27. Guards
D. Documentation
Evidence of packing shall be photographed and stored in the respective order dispatch folder
in the server for future reference. Dispatch In-charges shall be responsible for this activity.
E. Review
E.1. This SOP will be reviewed during either any improvement in the process or once in a year
by the process owner with linked departments.
E.2. The relevant team members should be trained on the newly created / revised SOP.
Training attendance should be recorded in the document –SOP/HSIN/PACKING/09/XX.
