METHOD OF STATEMENT
1. INTRODUCTION

This method statement addresses the approach to be adopted by Wintech Hydraulics


Maintenance & Trading Services LLC whilst carrying out all the necessary site operations to
complete, as described, in a safe manner.
This document aims to offer an insight into the procedures and methods to be implemented
by Wintech Hydraulics Maintenance & Trading Services LLC and our proposed methods of
material delivery, handling, access and undertaking the work.
This method statement shall be read and understood by all operatives.

2. GENERAL SCOPE AND EXTENT OF WORKS

• Overhaul of midship crane lifting cylinder
• Overhaul of mid ship crane control valve
• Overhaul of mid ship crane counter balance valve
• Crane to be shut for operation during repair. In order to prevent an unexpected start,
the equipment must be in a safe state during repair work.
• Boom of the Crane which is resting on the Luffing Cylinder must be supported
additionally and latched safely for the boom not to move. In the event of the boom not
having any safety latches, it should be set in a position so that the boom does not swing
or move lower due to gravity.
• Proper scaffolding to be installed to reach the Luffing cylinders to be repaired
• Working area to be barricaded properly and ensured entry is restricted to only
required personnel.
• Well trained and experienced technicians in the field to execute the job
• Correct PPE with safety below to work at heights on scaffolding platforms to be used
• Specific tools like Hydraulic Jacks, Chain Pulley Blocks and Pullers to be used apart from
standard tools

• De-pressurize Hydraulic System to Zero and System to be shut down until the repair
job on the cylinder is completed.
• Disconnect all pipelines connecting the cylinder and plug the pipelines and cylinder
ports to stop oil from dripping on the floor.
• Cylinder to be held in position using a chain hoist to remove the pin at both ends and
then the bearing at bearing replaceable end. Use lifting equipment that is robust enough
considering the lifting method and the load.
• Cylinder Pin and Swivel Bearing be removed using a hydraulic jack or a puller.
• Keep aside the Pins and Swivel Bearing in a safe place.
• Clean the bearing area thoroughly and lubricate the seating area
• Lift the hydraulic cylinder and fasten it into its place.
• Fix the New Swivel Bearing and secure the Cylinder Pins in place of the removed Swivel
Bearing and Pin
• Check that the hydraulic cylinder connection ports are set in the right direction.
• Tighten the fasteners of the hydraulic cylinder.
• Remove the protective plugs and guards.
• Fasten the hydraulic pipes or hydraulic hoses and connect to the system.
• Remove the lifting equipment from the hydraulic cylinder, if necessary.
• Remove the supports and restraining carefully.
METHOD STATEMENT

2.1 PRECAUTIONS
• Barricade the working area with proper signage’s / warnings.
• Pressure in the lines is to be released in consultation with the client’s representative.

2.2 DISMANTLING/REMOVAL
• Remove all the connections and mounting bolts of swivel eye bearing from a crane
hydraulic cylinder using hot work (Flame Heat).
• Flame heat to remove the bearing of the towing winches
• Barricade the lifting area and don’t allow anyone within 2mtrs. distance around the
hanging load.
• Pathway should be even and free from any other obstructions.

3. SITE COMMUNICATION

All appropriate Site Supervision personnel shall be equipped with appropriate communication
system, as may be assessed as a requirement by Site Procedures.

4. DELIVERY LOGISTICS

Deliveries to site shall be made in accordance with site specific requirement and notice shall
be given to the client / control room / site team prior to any arrival of the transport on-site.

The materials and equipment shall be packed in a manner suitable for offloading at any site /
installation. Any discrepancies and or damage shall be notified and withdrawn from service as
necessary and recorded.

5. OFF LOADING / DISTRIBUTION

• The vessel in charge shall be responsible for all the unloading and movement of any
materials / equipment and waste management during the works.
• Weights of any individual items to be lifted are to be manageable and alternative
measures shall be used if identified by the risk assessment.

6. EQUIPMENT/ PERSONNEL

• All supervisors and technicians are experienced and qualified to carry out the given
task.
• All equipment is internally tested and fit for use.
• An exclusion zone / warnings under any work area shall be in place and fit for purpose
prior to any operation being carried out.
• All equipment shall be checked prior to use.

7. STORAGE REQUIREMENTS

All equipment/materials shall be stored on site within a safe and dry area and allocated as
required by the work activity.

8. OPERATION PLAN

The following sequence should be followed when undertaking the work.

• All team members shall attend a site and company induction.


• All team members shall read and understand permit / risk assessments and this
method statement.
• All team members shall discuss and familiarize the scope of work and risk associated
with it.
• No work is to be carried out if this is not achievable or unable to be done safely.
• All team members shall conduct, document and sign onto on-site safety toolbox talks.
• Set up exclusion zone with highly visible tape.
• All personnel shall wear the appropriate PPE.
• All Team Members shall be conversant with the Detail of Specific Method Statement.
