1. SCOPE OF WORKS:
1.1. The scope of this method statement is to detail the onsite installation of Cables, Ducts &
manholes as defined in the project specifications.

2. ACCESS/EGRESS:
The Access/Egress to the site for the easy movement of workmen, material and equipment will be
carried out in a safe manner. Any obstacle shall be properly cleared either manually or employing
suitable equipment (Back Hoe). The area for backfilling shall be identified, marked & cleared of
obstructions if any. This clearing shall consist of rocks or other obstructions that will interfere with
proper backfilling of the areas.

3. LIGHTING:
Safety Lighting
Tamimi PEB will provide Safety lighting at the entry point/s of the project as such
adequate to the basic security of the site premises or in accordance with the project
requirements.

Task Lighting
Tower light or portable light is use in the dark or in reduced visibility, lights will be fitted
and used to enable the work area to be adequately illuminated. In addition, amber
flashing beacons that give warning of the presence of the vehicle will be fitted and used
if necessary.

General
Generally, if otherwise required Tamimi PEB will provide adequate lighting facility
wherever there is a necessity for the lighting for the safety of its employees, material,
equipment or any other asset of Tamimi PEB or Client.

4. PLANT AND EQUIPMENT:


4.1. Personal Protective Equipment
4.1.1 All personnel shall wear minimum PPE like helmet, safety shoes, hand gloves,
coverall, and safety gloves

4.3.1. Generators shall be used for temporary power supply.
4.3.2. Long run Extension Cord shall be used to distribute Electrical power.
4.3.3. Temporary generators shall be properly grounded to avoid Electric hazard.
5. MATERIALS:
5.1 All Electrical materials shall comply with the Project specifications.
5.2 Material submittals will be submitted to client for approval before the work start.
5.3 All Underground PVC Conduits, PVC Ducts PVC Coated rigid steel and direct buried cables and
fittings shall be properly protected and secure in a safe place to be ready for inspection.

6. SEQUENCE / METHOD OF WORK:


6.1 Pre Installation Inspection
6.1.1 Ensure that all safety requirements are in place in accordance with the project
safety plan
6.1.2 Ensure that the correct revision of the approved working drawing is being used.
Note that any areas on the drawing are subject to revision, work should not
proceed in these areas until an update drawing has been issued
6.1.3 Ensure that all materials used have passed receiving inspection in accordance with
QA procedures and are not damaged or defective. Any non-conforming materials
must be labeled and returned to the quarantine area in accordance with
procedures
6.1.4 Ensure that all electricians and helpers are aware of the correct materials handling
and installation procedures to ensure the best quality of workmanship
6.2 Site Planning & Preparation
6.2.1 The Site Engineer and Supervisor shall ensure that all necessary materials are
available on site
6.2.2 Complete tools are available at site prior to commencement of works
6.2.3 The Cables and Wires shall be inspected upon delivery to site Material
6.2.4 Cables and Wires shall be protected from sunlight & moisture by covering them
with tarpaulin. Low Voltage Cables and Wires shall be properly supported and
stacked on a flat surface
6.3 Laying of Main Power Cable
6.3.1 Cables shall be laid in prepared trenches and ensure the suitability of the trenches
6.3.2 Clean the installation area with all debris before lying of ducts/cables.
6.3.3 Sweet Sand bedding before and after installation of duct/cable.
6.3.4 Check the elevation level and location for ducts as per IFC drawings.
6.3.5 Lay the ducts/Cables at the required level and location.
6.3.6 The main civil contractor shall supervise and be responsible for all trenching and
backfill operations
6.3.7 Cables shall be tested prior to installation & Clearance shall be maintained in
between power, control, Instrumentation & Telecommunication cables
6.3.8 When the cables are laid into trenches, they shall be drawn by cable pulling grips
from drums supported on stands, on to the rollers throughout their length. All
rollers must be removed from the trench before the covering of sifted sand is laid
over the cables
6.3.9 Final trench back filling shall not proceed until all required test for cables are
performed
6.3.10 Where cables pass under roads and where shown as being in ducts in the working
drawings, the cables shall be drawn into ducts and all manholes are ready for
pulling cables
6.3.11 Particular attention shall be given to the sealing of ducts in the working drawings,

6.3.12 Where cables to be drawn into ducts, cable pulling grips shall be used and the
cables shall be supported on rollers without sharp edges during drawing operation.
All cable ducts shall first be cleaned before pulling the cables
6.3.13 Any lubricant used shall have no harmful effect on the cables and to be approved
by the Engineer. Where ducts are unused, they shall be sealed before backfilling
by means of plugs
6.3.14 When the cable is taken off the drum and flaked, the bending radii shall be not less
than those stated for installation
6.3.15 All cables shall be tested as per project quality plan
6.3.16 Manhole shall be in according with the project specification and Drawings
6.3.17 The inside surfaces of manhole walls and ceilings shall have a smooth finish
6.3.18 All debris shall be removed from manholes
6.3.19 Verify all pull strings and caps are installed
6.3.20 After installation of tiles, install electrical warning tape.
6.3.21 Installation of signs and post for direct buried cables only.

1. Waste Management

 Waste shall be controlled and managed at all times

sites
 Wastes shall be kept in a secure manner, suitably contained and labeled
 Hazardous wastes shall be kept separately and securely labeled containers for the task and
disposed of in accordance with the Hazardous Waste Regulations

2. Waste minimization
Tamimi shall endeavor to minimize waste streams in line with the principles of the waste hierarchy
 Avoidance of waste at source
 Reduction of waste volumes
 Re-use of uncontaminated spoil within the works
 Arrange for recycling of the waste
 Disposal as a last option

3. Operations of vehicles and plant


To ensure minimal impact from the operation of vehicles and plant, operators shall give due
regard and implement the following
 Minimize route and journey mileage to and from and around site
 Prevent nuisance to the community caused by parking, spoil from vehicle movements, noise and
access restrictions
 Ensure prevention of spillage of spoil, fuels, coolants, hydraulic oils and other vehicle fuels
 Maintain vehicles
 Ensure all vehicles and machinery are turned off when not in use
 Ensure suitable control for the means of access and egress to public highway
4. Noise and nuisance
Care shall be taken by the Tamimi Civil Works to ensure good image and relations with the
local community by the following
 The use of offensive language, behavior and or discourtesy to the public prohibited
 Excessive noise from plant, equipment, vehicles and employees being monitored
 Strict compliance with noise and working hour restrictions
 Excessive emissions of dust, fumes and odors
 Tamimi will ensure a high standard of housekeeping and litter control on all sites at all times
5. Water Protection:
 Fuels, oils, greases and hydraulic fluids must be stored in bunded compounds a minimum of
50m from the watercourse.
 Excavators will be modified to operate with biodegradable hydraulic oil.
 Diesel to be stored in double skinned tanks/diesel bowsers – refueling of plant to only take place
if drip trays are in position
 Refueling of machinery will be carried out in bunded areas.
 Runoff from machine service and concrete mixing areas must not enter the watercourse;
 Stockpile areas for sands and gravel will be kept to a minimum size, 50m away from the
watercourse;
 Runoff from the above will only be routed to the watercourse via suitably designed and sited
settlement ponds/filter channels;
 Settlement ponds should be inspected daily and maintained regularly;
 Temporary crossings will be designed to the criteria laid down for permanent works;
 Watercourse banks will be left intact if possible.
 If they have to be disturbed, all practicable measures should be taken to prevent soils from
entering the watercourse.

 General
Personal Protective Equipment and selection refer to Employer Requirement (AML-DEV-H&S-
GLE-0014 Personal Protective Equipment) for minimum requirements for selection, use and
maintenance of PPE.
 Communication and Fire Precautions
Petrol operated plant and tools are not permitted on-site without obtaining the Supervising
Consultant's approval.
Portable halogen lamps are not permitted for use as task lighting (stand lights).
LPG cylinders and other highly flammable liquids shall not be stored within the building under
construction. The use of these shall be restricted to those quantities required for daily use and they
shall be removed to the safe storage area each day after use.
Acetylene is to be strictly controlled by means of the permit system.
Other flammable liquids (such as paint) shall be stored safely within suitable metal
containers/storage huts.
Other materials, particularly combustible materials, shall be brought to site and stored using the
‘just in time’ approach to avoid excessive fire loading of the construction building.
Fire resistant materials shall be used for the temporary protection of building finishes, materials
and plant such as Monoflex and Correx and for the containment, protection of materials delivered
to site.
Site operations shall be coordinated and sequenced to maintain unobstructed fire exit routes
Unattended sources of potential fire ignition such as bitumen boilers and space heaters shall not be
permitted at any time.
Adequate fire extinguishers shall be provided for all fire hazard related site activities.
The workforce shall be adequately trained in the safe use of fire extinguishers.
A Hot Works Permit procedure shall be in force for all types of hot works such as burning, welding,
and abrasive wheel operations.

9. TRAINING
 All on site must complete TAMIMI site safety induction.
 Toolbox meeting must be conducted prior to commence the activity.
 Provide awareness training for the new employee for (tools, equipment and
etc.) and discuss a wide variety of hazards that new workers can encounter
while performing different types of tasks, and explains what they need to do to
avoid those hazards.

10. SUPERVISION:
10.1 All Electrical Site activities shall be carried out under the supervision for the following

13.1 TEST AND QUALITY RECORD:
13.1.1 All stages of Production will be controlled by using specifications, procedures,
Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
13.1.2 The ITP’s indicate the reference to the activities, responsibilities, applicable Project
specifications, drawings, verification documents, Hold points and notifications.
13.1.3 Any non-conformity observed regarding Electrical works, the Inspector shall identify
the observation and request for appropriate corrective action.
13.1.4 Appropriate corrective action is carried out within the specified period and.
Necessary Corrective action record is maintained.
13.1.5 QC inspector shall carry out re-inspection after the corrective action and if found it
conforms then the Electrical work can be cleared for the next process.
13.1.6 If the QC department does not confirm the product at a point but still it is forward
for further work, the QC inspector shall raise an NCR.
13.1.7 All the tests and record shall document the compliance to the project quality plan
and other project requirements to be submitted to the client at the close of the
project.
13.1.8 The minimum depth of burial requirement for underground installation shall be as
specified in the IFC Drawings.
