Student Identity:

My Students Identities
1. The majority of the students in my class identify with either African American or
Hispanic.
2. It does appear that many of the students in my observation class struggle with a strong
sense of self. Many students did not seem to believe in their abilities and instead were not
as engaged in activities.

My Students Skills
1. When learning something new, it appears that the students excel when they are interested
in the topics they are learning. Also, there is always engagement when a reward is in
place.
2. I do not think the students were in love with the content area we taught. Yet, there may
have been one or two that were in “love.”

My Students Intellect
1. Students usually want to learn about topics that they are interested in. For example, the
class I observed worked on an activity that was related to Tik Tok, which is a popular app
among the youth.
2. Students cultivate their knowledge of the real world through their experiences and where
they spend a lot of time such as their home life.

My Students Criticality
1. I believe that the media students consume play a big role in how they distinguish between
truth and falsehood in the world.
2. My students are very aware of oppression considering there is a lot of diversity within the
class I observed.

My Students Joy
1. I think it depends on the day and the topic that impacts the joy students have in the
classroom. Also, a positive classroom environment plays an important role in the joy.
2. I found that the students were very humorous which I would consider artistic and creative
sensibilities.
