Briefly state TWO (2) types of infrastructure projects and explain how government can improve
these facilities in Malaysia. (CO1-PO2)(C1-C2)

QUESTION 2
A retaining wall needs to be constructed to rehabilitate a slope failure in a mining project area.
Based on preliminary studies, both counterfort and cantilever retaining walls are among the
potential types of retaining walls to be installed on this slope. However, after a thorough
inspection and design calculation, you, as an engineer of this project, have decided to choose
a counterfort wall instead of a cantilever wall. Discuss FOUR (4) factors that make the
selection of this wall is more suitable than the cantilever wall type. (CO1-PO2)(C3-C4)

QUESTION 3
a) Highway drainage systems are designed to collect surface water run-off to reduce
floods and protect the road's fabric. Therefore, water should be kept away from the
road structure wherever feasible, or an attempt should be made to swiftly remove it off
the road surface by building a well-designed drainage system.
You are required to propose suitable road drainage in cut and fill section areas.
Discuss using appropriate illustrations on the types and functions of drainage that you
intended to install in this project. (CO1-PO2)(C3-C4)

b) Based on the answer (a), discuss FIVE (5) possibilities of road deterioration if drainage
