1) Revise sustainability and impact of the solution of water and wastewater engineering in
societal and environmental contact. (CO2)
2) Understand and evaluate the sustainability and impact of engineering technician work in
the solution of well-defined engineering problems in societal and environmental contexts.
(PO7)
INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Students are required to apply depth of knowledge acquired (DP1) to analyse and/or
evaluate the problem based on given case using specified knowledge profile of (WK4,
WK5, WK6 & WK7). Which comply with (DK7) comprehension - issue & approaches.
a) WK4 Engineering Fundamentals
b) WK4 Engineering Specialist
c) WK6 Engineering Design
d) WK7 Engineering Practice
2) Students are required to compare and/or assess the conflicting issues (technical,
engineering and etc.) and/or propose optimal solution to solve the problems. Involve a
limited range of stakeholders with differing needs (conflicting requirement) (DP6).
3) Discrete components of engineering systems and have consequences which are locally
important and not far-reaching. Students are required to develop or formulate relevant
processes and/or justify the selection of the treatments (DP7).
Please make sure you cite someone else ideas with proper citation and bibliography
references in making an argument, justification or deliberation when completing this task.

ASSIGNMENT QUESTION:
The water quality status of rivers in Malaysia has always been a cause for concern. From the
observation and technical perspective, inapplicable selection of wastewater treatments could be
a reason for pollution in rivers. Different types of wastewater requires suitable design for the
treatments. Selection of the treatments is importance to satisfy the quality standard of effluents
before discharge to the rivers. Propose suitable wastewater treatment technology for the
mentioned problem and evaluate the feasibility of your proposal according to the listed question
below.
a) Select ONE (1) wastewater types and discuss the selection based on societal, industrial
economic and environmental influences.
(5 marks)
c) Discuss the process and justify your claim by incorporating for FOUR (4) wastewater
quality parameters that can be treated from the proposed technologies.
(5 marks)
d) Identify and evaluate FOUR (4) potential technical, engineering issues/problems and any
other encountered issues that may arise during the treatment process as in (c) and make
recommendations on how to resolve them.
