Discussion

Three-phase electric power is a common method of generating, transmitting, and

distributing alternating current electric power. It is a type of polyphase system and the
most common method of power transfer used by electrical grids worldwide. Large
motors and others heavy loads are also powered by it. Because it uses less conductor
material to transmit a given amount of electrical power, a three-wire three-phase circuit
is usually more economical than two wire single-phase circuit at the same line to
ground voltage.

The Figure 1 shown how generation, transmission, and distribution of electric

power systems. High transmission substations generate 50 Hz of electric
power through yellow, red, and blue wires that connect between power plants. The
electric power will then be risen to 500kV. Following that, it generates secondary high
transmission cables on the large pylon and reduces the voltage from 500kV to 33kV
to supply large industries. The connection of transmission cables on small pylons will
generate power for the primary distribution substation and step down from 33kV for
heavy industrial.

The three-phase electric has advantages and disadvantages. The advantages

of three-phase power are It can easily manage heavy loads and does not require any
motors. Next, it cannot handle overload, which is costly to repair, and it also has a high
cost of insulation because it is dependent on the voltage of the unit, whereas the size
of wire is depends on current.

Conclusion
From the experiment, we can learn about the pros and cons of three-phase
power. We can also learn about the components used in three-phase power supply.
We can see how three-phase electricity is better for heavy-duty appliances because it
provides stable power. Therefore, this laboratory work's objective was accomplished.
