INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT

What is the difference between fact and opinion?

A fact is a true statement. It is a thing or event that really happened or existed.


It can be proven by means of observation and experience.
A fact is a specific detail that is true based on objective proof.
A fact is discovered

An opinion is a view or guess may or may not be true. It is a feeling or attitude.


An opinion is an interpretation, value judgement, or belief that cannot be proved
or disproved.
Clue words like think, believe, feel, must be, must probably, seems and often
signal an opinion.

Fact and opinion skills help a student distinguish statements that be


proven(facts)from a statement that express an attitude or judgement
and cannot be proven true.
