When did you realize your parents were bad at parenting?

I was in 4th grade. Our mom was picking us up from school that day, for a rare change. As I walked up, I saw the trunk tied shut and numbness washed over me. I then
listened to my mother brag about how many beautiful planters, hanging baskets, and flowers she had bought. She had new clothes while we were hand-me-downs, we
constantly had almost no groceries halfway through the week when she ran out of money while she would buy lunch regularly at work, and she had just spent her entire tax
return on plants. She made enough money to easily support us, if only she had been capable of thinking about anything beyond her own instant gratification.

This was my realization of who my mother was, at 9 years old, and that I was more of an adult than she was capable of being.

My Dad didn't drink, but he was a rageaholic, and you never knew what small thing would cause him to physically punish us. I was 6 and running threw the hanging

old I learned to lie, be dishonest, and never to talk about anything that went on in our household.

Very confusing for an innocent kid to learn.

I feel your pain. My mom wasn’t good with money either. She tried her best but she wasn’t really good at parenting and I don’t think she even thought much about it
before starting a family. I remember being young and going in the fridge and there wasn’t anything to eat. She used to buy fruit and coldcuts for me and my
brothers but she stopped buying them because we would “eat all of it”. I think our record for not grocery shopping is like 5 months. She hated cooking, cleaning,
shopping but was a single mom of three kids living in her own mother’s basement. My dad did not meet her standards of what a man “should be” but I know he
didn’t cook, clean, shop, fix things around the house or whatever a parent is supposed to do either. I wonder sometimes if they both expected the other to do all the
work.

I never understood the logic of either of them getting together and having three kids. But here I am and trying to be more responsible than them.

You don't believe me now, but I guarantee that if you had been a teenager in the 80s you would have played Pacman and spent a lot of time trying to figure out the Rubik's
cube.

You would have worn spandex, leg warmers, acid washed jeans, huge shoulder pads and headbands, not because you had to but because it looked insanely cool.

How do I get my body in shape?

After 30 years of studying and practice This is my cheat sheet at 55 yrs.

Most people over complicate fitness. Being fit, lean and strong for your whole life is not easy, but it is really not complex - just do the basics well.

If you are time poor (I have kids and a demanding career) three 20-25 min full body workouts with HEAVY weights can give some pretty amazing results as long as you
really do go hard.

Be a little bit hungry (but not starving) for a lot of the day. This is the natural way our bodies function.

Then when you re-fuel eat moderately - not too much and with a balance of complex carbs, protein and fat. Leave the table before you are full.

Don’t fall for the high fat myths. You need maybe 20% of calories from good fats but if you start using lots of olive oil on everything and eating handfuls of almonds
through the day you WILL get fat- moderation in fat/carbs and proteins.

I love beer and coffee and I have both every day - but no more than two, and make sure they are both strong

Have fun at the gym and throw in other fun physical activity when you can (cycling, hiking etc). Remember this is a fun journey of healthy eating and activity- enjoy the
ride

A rich young woman sat beside a poor elderly man on a plane. She alerted the flight attendant upon taking her seat.

The flight attendant answered warmly, when the woman abruptly said, “Please find me another seat immediately.” The flight attendant responded, “I’m sorry Ma’am, but
the economy cabin is fully booked.”

The rich woman replied, “But I’m not going to travel beside a worthless bum. Do something.”

While the elderly man stared in disbelief, the flight attendant responded, “I’ll talk to the Captain about this.”

The flight attendant went to the Captain and asked, “Captain, a woman feels uncomfortable sitting beside a poor elder man. What should we do?”

Surprisingly, the Captain’s face changed. He looked amused and said, “This woman is interesting. I’ve never encountered an issue like this before. I have a plan. Listen..”

And the Captain relayed to the flight attendant what he wants to do. The flight attendant was stunned at his plan. In fact, she was amazed.

A few minutes later, the flight attendant returned. “The Captain said we could use an open seat in First Class. He also wants to apologize for having to travel with such a
terrible person.”

As the woman rose out of her seat, the flight attendant reached out her arm towards the poor elderly man. “Sir will you please follow me?” To which the plane applauded.

Never look down on other people. We are all equal in God’s sight. Regardless of what you have achieved in life, stay humble. Keep your feet on the ground. The bad news
is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.

What is the most disturbing picture you've ever seen?

A filmmaker has the audacity to suggest that government should legalize rape & that girls should carry condoms in their pockets and not resist their rapists.

That way, this pervert adds, by accepting the sex of the rapist, they save themselves from a sure death because the rapist would be satisfied and would leave them more
alive than dead because he will kill you only if you're a nuisance.

So, in essence the man asked you to lump it, be prepared for it and leave the man satisfied so that he doesn't kill you.

That a man of a certain social standing wrote this on social media and that people of similar social standing - women included have liked and shared this post angers,
scares & worries me.

I'm convinced that as a society we're regressing into a country of cattle that just follow mindlessly and unthinkingly.

That a man has the perversion of thought to think up a post like this and that there are takers, is probably one of the most disturbing things I've seen in a while.

What are a few bitter truths of life?

Having visible abs isn’t as great as everyone thinks.

This is me back in February 2021-

I think I’m moderately fit here. Have a good amount of fat, with just a bit of abdominal definition.

Now this is me exactly a year later-

This is one of the most ripped I’ve been my entire life. My six pack showing pretty much in any lighting, a couple of veins popping out on my lower abdomen too.

Now anyone would think I made good progress, which I won’t deny. But let me take you through the downsides of that.

I lost strength. A year ago I could deadlift over a 100 kgs, which went down to 80–85.

My endurance took a hit. I found myself tired more often than before.

I was getting injured more easily that before.

I had lost overall motivation and happiness in life. Even my quality of sleep struggled.

So while it may seem cool and amazing to be shredded and flaunt your abs, it didn’t feel nearly as good as I expected. Most of the fitness influencers on social media aren’t
shredded for most of the year. Most of the ones who are are on gear and have a very careful lifestyle. Our brain needs fat to be happy and dropping it to a very low level is
never good in the long run.

The past couple months, I stopped working out and got out of shape. I’m back on my workouts but this time my priority is my health.(Well, body dysmorphia does push me
to get ripped again). So everyone who’s pushing hard in the gym with a shredded version of themselves as their goal, be careful and take care of yourself.

P.S. I’m sharing this mostly on the basis of my personal experiences and of what I read about online. There sure are people who are healthy whilst maintaining a low body
fat percentage year round too. I’m emphasising on us listening to our bodies.

Updated physique(after about 7 months)-

I corrected a few mistakes I was doing before and learnt more about my body. As per the picture below, I’m on a bulk, eating 4000–4200 kcal a day. Not sure about the
bodyfat percentage but I think I am not carrying too much fat from the bulk.
