Method of Statement for Plain Cement Concrete (PCC)

Objective: The objective of this method of statement is to provide guidelines
and procedures for the proper execution of Plain Cement Concrete (PCC) in
construction, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with relevant standards.

Scope: This method of statement covers the preparation, placement, and curing
of Plain Cement Concrete in accordance with the approved construction
drawings and specifications.

Materials and Equipment:


Concrete mix design C20/20 (64% OPC + 36 % CGBS)
Polythene sheet as per approved material.
Vibrator & H.C
Masonry tools (shovels, trowels, etc.)
Safety equipment (helmets, gloves, safety glasses, etc.)
Mobile Pump & Concrete trucks

4. Responsibilities:

Construction Manager:
• Overall supervision and coordination of PCC Casting and ensure that
the work activities are in accordance with specs.

Site Engineer:
• Execution of PCC Casting activities in accordance with approved
specifications.

Quality Control Inspector:


• Ensuring that PCC Casting meets specified standards and quality
requirements.
• All materials must conform to the approved specifications and standards.
• All levels must confirm to the approved drawing.
• Conduct tests for concrete ingredients as per project requirements.
• Ensure proper mix design proportions are maintained.
• Conduct slump tests and temp tests as per standards.

5. Safety Measures:
• All personnel must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Adequate signage and barricades must be in place to warn against
potential hazards.
• Ensure that workers are trained in concrete handling and safety
procedures.
• Regular safety briefings and toolbox talks should be conducted.
• Ensure the area is accessible.
6. Procedure:

a. Site Preparation:
• Ensure that the Backfilling and Road base are compacted well and in
accordance with specs and the approved drawing.
• Clear the construction area of any debris or obstacles.
• Set up formwork to the required dimensions and alignment.

b. Mixing of Concrete:
• Batch the concrete mix (C20/20 (64% OPC + 36 % CGBS).
• Ensure that the concrete mixer or batching plant is properly calibrated.
• Use clean and suitable aggregates, sand, cement, and water.

c. Placing and Compaction:


• Place the concrete mix into the formwork.
• Ensure proper consolidation and eliminate air voids.
• Ensure that the vibrator used is inspected and the casting cement is in
accordance with the project specification.
• Ensure that the level of PCC is in accordance with the required level.

d. Finishing:
• Strike off the concrete surface with a straightedge to the required level
As per the approved drawing
• Finish the surface using trowels for a smooth and even appearance.

e. Curing:
• Begin curing immediately after finishing the surface.
• Use curing compounds or cover the concrete with curing blankets or other
suitable methods.
• Maintain the curing conditions for the specified duration.

7. Inspection and Testing:


• Conduct regular inspections during the placement and curing of PCC.
• Perform slump tests, cube tests, and any other specified tests as per
project requirements.
• Upon completion, conduct a final inspection to ensure compliance with
specifications.
• Obtain formal acceptance and sign-off from the relevant authorities.
8. Documentation:
Maintain records of concrete mix proportions, batch tickets, and test
results.
Document any deviations from the approved method and corrective
actions taken.
