1. Objective: The objective of this method statement is to outline the procedure for
excavation works at the construction site, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency
throughout the process.

2. Scope: This method statement covers the excavation works for AL Qusais Residential
Development on Plot No. 232-499. It includes the excavation of trenches, foundations,
and any other required areas as per the project specifications and drawings.

3. Responsibilities:

• Site Engineer: Overall supervision and coordination of the excavation works.


• Excavation Team: Execution of the excavation works in accordance with the
approved drawings and specifications & Strictly implement all the safety and
authorities requirements.
• Safety Officer: Ensuring that safety measures are strictly adhered to during the
excavation process.

4. Equipment and Resources:

• Shovel Machine
• JCB
• Dump trucks
• Safety barriers and signage
• Surveying equipment
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

5. Procedure:

5.1 Site Preparation:

• Conduct a pre-start safety briefing with the excavation team.


• Ensure that the area to be excavated is clearly free from any services to avoid any
damage during excavation.
• To make sure that all the permissions & authorities’ requirements are obtained
and available before starting.
• Check the location of existing utilities and services and take all the precautionary
measures to avoid damage during excavation.
• Ensure that the area to be excavated is clearly marked and barricaded.
• Check the location of existing utilities and services to avoid damage during
excavation.
• Provide adequate access for construction equipment.

5.2 Excavation Process:

• Use appropriate shoring and bracing systems where required.


• Excavate according to the approved drawings and specifications.
• Regularly survey the excavation depth and dimensions to ensure accuracy.
• Ensure proper slope and batter angles to prevent collapse.
• Remove excavated materials promptly to designated areas.
• Make surveying report to ensure that we reached the required level according to
the approved drawings & specifications.

5.3 Spoil Management:

• Dispose of excess spoil in accordance with local regulations.


• Remove excavated materials promptly to the approved designated areas in
accordance with local regulations.
• Implement dust control measures to minimize environmental impact.

5.4 Safety Measures:

• All personnel must wear appropriate PPE, such as but not limited: helmets, safety
shoes, optical safety eyewear, masks, and high-visibility vests.
• Barricade the excavation area to prevent unauthorized access.
• Conduct regular toolbox talks on safety procedures.
• Keep firefighting equipment nearby and regularly inspect it.
• Take all the precautionary measures to control the dust during excavation.

5.5 Inspection and Quality Control:

• Regularly inspect the excavation for any signs of instability or hazards.


• Ensure that the excavated area meets the specified dimensions and levels.
• Report any deviations from the approved drawings to the Construction Manager.

6. Records:

• Maintain a daily excavation log, including details of quantities, depths, and any
issues encountered.
• Record any variations from the approved drawings and the actions taken to
address them.
