DESCRIPTION AND PROPERTIES OF FIELDS

A field is a region of space under the influence of some physical agency such as gravitational , magnetic,
and electric field. There are two classes of fields namely; scalar and vector fields. That a scalar field is
one that has only magnitude but no direction e.g temperature, energy, density. While a vector field is
one that has both magnitude and direction e.g gravitational, magnetic, electric.

PROPERTIES OF FIELDS

1. Some are uniform while others are non- uniform.

2. They possess both magnitude and direction.
3. The lines of field do not cross each other.
4. The lines of field indicate any direction of the field.
5. The lines of field are continuous in any region with free changes.
Types of field
1. Gravitational field
2. Magnetic field
3. Electric field
A gravitational field as a region or space under the influence of gravity or gravitational force.
An electric field as a region or space under the influence of electric force.
A magnetic field as a region or space under the influence of gravitational force
