Using the video on Page 3 and the personal Wellness Wheel exercise information on
Page 6, along with everything you have learned in the lesson answer the following
questions:

Answer these questions in full sentences. Please ensure each response answers all
parts of the question, and is a minimum of 2-3 sentences as stated. Partial marks will be
given for incomplete responses.

1. In your own words, how do you define Health and Wellness? Give your own
definition below. (3 marks)

2. Discuss the following components of wellness listed below. Using the information
in the lesson, write at least three sentences for each area describing what they
mean to you. (9 marks)

We covered six Dimensions of Wellness in the lesson. Choose three of the six
dimensions of wellness using your Wellness Wheel from page 6. Name the area that is
not balanced and list two things you can do to improve in these areas (2 marks). Explain
why these will help you improve your health and wellness (1 mark) and how you will
follow through with your recommendations (1mark).

U3, Assignment #3: Supporting your Friend.

Total Marks: 12 marks

Choose one of the following scenarios’ and respond to the situation using the
information you have learned in the lesson. Type/write at least one page for the answer
you give and cover all the parts of the question.

1. Diet (Emotional, Physical and Social) – Sarah, a friend of yours, is aware that
she is overweight and is bullied about her size. This affects her feeling of
wellbeing. You are her only friend and she would like to be more popular. She
really wants to do something about this and has confided in you and asked for
help.

How would you support her and what help and advice would you give her? What
would you do personally to support her? Who would you recommend to support
her with her issues and concerns?

2. Robert (Social - Peer Pressure, Addiction, Emotional, Spiritual, Physical


Wellness), is a friend of yours and he has been ignoring you for a few weeks
now. He has fallen into bad company and they have started putting pressure on
him to take drugs and drink alcohol. He does not want to do this as it makes him
uncomfortable. He has begun to appreciate your friendship and he comes to ask
your advice. What would you say to him?
How would you support him in this situation, using the things you have learnt in
this lesson? What would you do as a friend to support him? Who would you
recommend he sees for support?

3. Samantha is depressed (Emotional, Social, Spiritual). She feels she has nothing
in her life that is worthwhile. She has family and friends but no one understands
her. She says she feels empty and isolated. She does not know what to do to
improve her feeling of self-worth. Her friends have started going to the local
Church and Church Youth Club and she sees their relationships developing both
with each other and with God. She wants to know how you feel about Faith and if
it would be a good thing for her to participate in the Church activities.

What would you say to her? What would you do for her? Who should she talk to
about these issues and questions?
