Preamble
This project proposes monitoring and control system for agricultural parameters based on IOT
and web application to overcome the problems faced in monitoring different parameters in daily
farming activities with help of solar power.

In this project a system is developed which consists of different sensors to monitor different
agricultural parameters such as temperature, moisture, Humidity and rainfall levels.

In addition to monitoring certain activities can be controller through the internet such as
irrigation, temperature stabilization systems and so on. Thus the proposed project forms complete
IOT framework for agricultural operations.
Theme, Relevancy

An IoT-based smart agriculture monitoring system powered by solar energy is a promising

approach to improving agricultural practices while promoting sustainability.

This system has the potential to revolutionize agriculture by increasing crop yields, reducing
resource waste, and promoting environmentally friendly practices.

The integration of energy from renewable sources into the internet of things (IoT)-based smart
agricultural observation system increases its sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
Literature Review
G. Sandhi et al., in [1] have proposed visually guided operations in green-houses. A vision system to operate
in a greenhouse environment designed for tomato cultivation is explained.
K. Rangan et al., in [2] have discussed An Embedded Systems Approach to Monitor Green House. They are
used an embedded system approach to monitor and control the greenhouse parameters. They are measuring
humidity, temperature, pH of the water, soil wetness and light intensity by sensors.
Wei Ai et al., in [3] have proposed Green House Environment Monitor Technology Implementation Based
on Android Mobile Platform. China is a large agricultural nation. And agriculture is the foundation of
national economy.
Akshay et al., in [4] have proposed Wireless sensing and control for precision Greenhouse management they
used a CPU for monitoring and a ZigBee with PIC microcontroller to establish a wireless communication
between two distant locations.
Scope & Objectives

1) To develop a system for monitoring of various agricultural parameters such as temperature, humidity, Soil
moisture and rainfall using and hardware based system.

2) To connect the system to the internet so that the different parameters can be monitored from anywhere over the
world.

3) To develop a web application which can be used to visualize and monitor all the parameters mentioned above.

4) To implement efficient IOT protocols such as MQTT so that system is responsive and fast.

5) To develop a cloud based solution so that the system is scalable at any instant of time.

6) To make the system economical and adaptable.

SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM
METHODOLOGY
Market study and literature review:
The hardware interfacing: The appropriate microcontroller is selected in this phase and hardware is
interfaced to monitor different parameters..
Programming the microcontroller: After interfacing the sensors the microcontroller is programmed to
get the data from the interfaced sensors. The data is formatted properly to be used for further applications.
Connecting to internet: In this phase the data monitored through different sensors is pushed to the
internet or a server hosted on internet. The server handles all the data and can be accessed anywhere from
the world using internet.
MQTT and PAHO:In this phase the cloud based MQTT broker is implemented as data transfer protocol
to establish the communication between the developed hardware and the software. Since the broker is
hosted on cloud it can easily scale up in future.
Assembly and testing:In this phase the entire project is assembled, tested and optimized for reliability.
Advantages & Applications
• Can be used to check the different parameters required for agriculture

• Can be used for internet monitoring of the field

• The system not only helps the farmer monitor the parameters remotely but also control
irrigation remotely from the comfort of his home

• The system is cloud controlled, hence can be easily scaled in future

• The system also informs the farmer regarding the rainfall status in the farm.
Limitations
Technical expertise: The installation and maintenance of IoT-based agriculture monitoring

systems require technical expertise.

High cost: The cost of implementing IoT-based agriculture monitoring systems can be high.

Relevance on technology: IoT-based agriculture monitoring systems depends heavily on

technology.
Deliverable & Expected Outcomes
▪Crop condition monitoring

▪Temperature humidity and moisture sensor.

▪Various sensors provided information is stored and used for future forecasting.

▪Water management: Moisture sensor will give the information about moisture so that help farmer
to supply needed amount of water.
▪The system increases the crop productivity and reduces farmer’s workload.
