General Directions:
• On a short bond paper, copy and answer the given problem for the
Diesel electric power plant
• Design all the systems included with their corresponding parameters
• Make a layout for the design and its components
• Add introductory information regarding diesel power plants, i.e.,
fundamental principles, formulas, diagrams, advantages, disadvantages,
efficiency, applications, etc.
• Indicate the standards you need to consider and make the citation
• Draw the needed diagrams i.e. (T-s and P-V), and system lay-out. Label
the components with their specifications.
• Make a computational Excel file for your design to simulate the
parameters of a diesel-electric power plant easily
• Make a technical report paper and write it all in ENGINEERING
LETTERING. (Indicate your section and group number on the front
page)
• Provide a short PowerPoint presentation for your report. (Include
parameters and how you design the system)
• Scan and convert your report paper to pdf after you complete the
design, performance, heat balance, efficiency test, and layout of this
diesel powerplant.

PLANT FEATURES
THE POWER PLANT IS EQUIPPED WITH TWO 6.5 MVA GENERATORS
AT 97% EFFICIENCY; 0.85 POWER FACTOR; 13.8KV 3PHASE 60HZ.
THE TWO 4-STROKE TURBO-CHARGE ENGINES ARE TO BE
SELECTED FROM DAIHATSU ENGINE MANUFACTURER. INSIDE THE
POWERHOUSE BUILDING ARE THE 2 DIESEL ENGINE &
GENERATORS. NEXT TO THE ENGINE FLOOR IS THE 100SQM
CONTROL ROOM & 100SQM SWITCHGEAR. THE BUILDING ALSO
HOUSES THE 2 MOTOR DRIVEN FUEL OIL PUMPS, 2 RECIPROCATING
AIR COMPRESSORS FOR ENGINE START-UP; THE FRESHWATER &
LUBE OIL PUMPS ARE ENGINE DRIVEN & HEAT IS TRANSFERRED TO
THE FRESHWATER & LUBE OIL COOLER RESPECTIVELY. LUBE OIL
PURIFIERS & FUEL OIL PURIFIERS & HEATERS. DIESEL OIL IS USED
FOR START-UP & SHUTDOWN WHILE BUNKER C IS USED FOR
CONTINUOUS OPERATION. THE DIESEL & BUNKER C SERVICE TANKS
ARE INSIDE THE BUILDING. WHILE THE DIESEL & HEAVY FUEL
STORAGE TANK ARE OUTSIDE THE BLDG. THE ENGINE
FRESHWATER & LUBE OIL COOLERS ARE OF PLATE TYPE & RAW
WATER IS SENT TO THE COOLING TOWER FOR COOLING & IS
INSTALLED IN OUTSIDE OF THE POWERHOUSE BUILDING. SO, WITH
THE COMMON STEP UP/STEP DOWN 69KV TRANSFORMER ON THE
SWITCHYARD FOR SYNCHRONIZATION TO THE GRID WILL BE USED.
A FORCE DRAFT FAN SUPPLIES VENTILATION TO THE T/C AT 2.5IN
WG & STACK TO DEVELOP A 1-IN STATIC DRAFT.
