Do you still remember the active ingredients present in common household cleaning
products?
B. MOTIVATION
C. LESSON PROPER
1. The teacher will group the students into four by playing, “the boat is sinking”.
2. Each group will list at least 8 cleaning materials for household and personal use. They
are given 10 minutes to do the activity. (See table below)

___1.The formation of foam/ bubbles facilitates the surfactant and helps clean dirt. This is possible because of
the added perfume to the cleaning product.
___2. Builders are substances that prevent other contaminants from reacting with the active ingredient in the
detergent.
___3. Cleaning agents do not need preservatives. They are not food so they do not spoil. Their active ingredients
will remain the same for as long period of the time without preservatives.
___4. Microbes that cause infection or degradation do not grow in cleaning products. The appearance of the
product will be preserved without antimicrobial additives.
___5. Fragrance enhancers are added to cleaning products to remove the unwanted odor like bathroom
cleaners. Essential oils are fragrances they use.
Why is it important to know the uses of the other ingredients in cleaning agents?
